Adding gun fire sounds and editing existing mods?

Post by DarkFire »

So I have downloaded Battlefront Extreme and really like it, but there a few thing I would like to change. I am not planning to release anything I just want to edit it for my own enjoyment and possibly for machinima. So I was wondering how to edit already munged files, almost in a sense "unmunging" them or opening them in a program like WinRAR, but for a .lvl.
One thing I want to edit is a gun fire sound in the mod, but when I try to add this same gun fire sound for the normal game, it doesn't work. I don't really know how the gun fire .wavs are formatted, are they a certain length, do they repeat the same sound a few times or just one sound once. So I was wondering if someone could explain to me the format of Star Wars Battlefront 2's laser fire .wavs.
Thanks! :)

Welcome to GT.
First of all there is an lvl extractor, but it cannot extract the whole source. But you are lucky since the source code was released in the released assets thread.
And in the FAQ Thread you'll find all answers about the sounds.
