Animation and weight
Hello there! I have two (probably simple) questions.
One. How do i get a model/shapes to stick to the skeleton?
Two. How easy is animating in XSI? I know it takes a long time, but still
THanks in adVanced!

RE: Animation and weight
So let me get this straight... You want to learn how to make the model get attached and deformed onto your skeleton.
in the future it'd be appreciated if you also said what program you want to learn it in, as it's even named differently in the various applications around. (in Maya for instance, it's called 'binding skins' where it in XSI is called Enveloping.)
Look at Mini's tutorial, I've forgot whether that involves deformation as well or not.
But take a look anyways.
To your 2nd question, I'd like to be pretty honest with you... And that is that you right now just sounds like an eager kid noticing how fascinating it is and will also make something 'pwnz0rz'.
There are several factors to this. You can animate in more than 1 way.. remember that.
I personally wouldn't recommend that you start animating, especially if you've never tried enveloping your model(s) before. It'll simply save you from grey hair
Just keep it on the basic level and learn the most you can there, since that's usually all you'll need.
And in XSI - if you know what you're doing - it's easy enough. (if you know what you're doing) Dragonum has been begging me for weeks to write a tutorial, even though I've told him for months how to animate. (I've told him the basics and the simple controls, and then his creativity should be enough to take over and make something complex.) But he simpyl can't understand it. He's not an idiot or anything (far from
) His way of thinking is simply alot more different than mine. He's having more troubles imagining and 'reading' his own thoughts and 'transfer' them to his scene.. which is the reason he's got problems with animations.
Think about it again.. do you really think you can make your scene exactly what you want?
If you think you can, use google to look for simple tutorials

First off this isn't for SWBF or any mod for that sake. Ok. I think the fact that i said How easy is animating in XSI? would give some kind of clue. I understand how to use google. I just though hey! there's a 3D modeling section at Gametoast why not use it. The awesome community at Gametoast would give some helping hand. Not I'm not some kid who wants to make a bloody 'pwnz0rz' thing. I'm dead serious about making models and completing my projects.
I Understand how to XSI to a certain extent. And if you notice, in the XSI section i had a thread think a crap load of my models.
I already have some and i'm not even 23.It'll simply save you from grey hair Wink

Target , you should know by now that certain ,supposed, "Elders" have various inanimate objects stuck up their backside. Generally patronizing and certainly pedantic , they will rarely help you. This is the case for creating custom 3d works anyway.
My advice to you would be to sign up here :

You may find a little less ego , a little more substance
Good luck.

yep, but who said anything about good deformations?
Apparently the college's internet signed me out after starting to post when I was signed in..
Must be some kind of bug
I wrote the post before, Target'
I guess the link to mini's tutorial is; http://www.gametoast.com/index.php?name ... pic&t=4471
Also, Bandu - the whole point of 3D isn't just to copy other's work. if I taught you to do something just as if it had been a tutorial you probably wouldn't be able to do it again with a similar job. Getting the point and understanding before throwing yourself into something is usually the best way to learn. and you gotta admit it DID sound like Target wanted something very cool just specially made for him all cutted and served on a silverplate + bread.
I guess that's why my reaction was as it was. And everything is relative in this
You can't ask whether animation is easy or not...
It's up for each persons's qualifications, understanding, skills and talent which decides how good and easy your work will be.
Mini' prefer the Weight Paint Tool, where I prefer a simple Weight Editor. It's all up to yourself.

Wasnt my point. The point is the post was patronizing and pedantic. Something that has been a theme here for quite a while. His questions were simple enough and didnt beg for an arrogance spashed reply. Sometimes I get the feeling some people are here just to have their ego's feeded. Thus, I linked him to XSIbase , where he can really learn.Qdin wrote:yep, but who said anything about good deformations?
