Re: Windows XP Registry question
Go in Regedit ==> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ==> SOFTWARE and delete the folder corresponding to your program
(example: for The GIMP, delete the folder GIMP).

Re: Windows XP Registry question
Firewalls dont remove viruses. You need an anti-virus program.
Can you post a screen shot of whats not going away?

Re: Windows XP Registry question
that's the problem i tryed but it doesn't work on the desktop. so i try again to explain:
1: I install a program
2: i delete this program
3: i'm on my desktop with all this icons.
4: i press the right mous button at a place where is nothing no icon no file no folder only the Desktop.
5: i go with the mous on the first menue entry (it's for order your desktop icons)
6: a new menue apears next to the first.
7: i can choose to order my desktop icons for their names the typ or how big they are.
8: under all this normal things are three new ones from the installed program
i hope my english is well enough

Re: Windows XP Registry question
So basically, you're saying that when you uninstalled this program it didn't delete all the files/settings? Isn't there some programs which make sure that all programs are thoroughly deleted, although I'm not sure if they cost money....
EDIT: This should help you in the future, although it don't think they work with programs which were installed before the uninstaller was installed.
8 Free Uninstallers
To solve your current issue, maybe try re-installing the offending program, then use one of the aforementioned uninstallers to get rid of it once and for all. Hope this helped, and good luck fixing this

Re: Windows XP Registry question
Try uninstalling in safe mode? Or run a virus scan in safe mode, 'malwarebytes' ( a virus program that is very good) scans the registry for any unwanted keys.
