Cannot delete light [Solved]
Another stupid crash thread. I have zero experience with the games lighting system, I was just experimenting around, looking at stock maps and trying to copy them. I added a directional light much like the stock mos eisley light, and it caused the game to crash when you look into the sky. Then I tried to remove it from ZE. It seemed to delete fine, but then when I went back ingame it still crashed. I have manual cleaned many times and there are no errors in the log.
Why did it crash in the first place, and how do I remove the light?

Re: Cannot delete light
How exactly did you go about setting up the directional light? What settings did you choose?

Re: Cannot delete light
I recreated it in ZE so I could take this picture. Then I closed ZE without saving so I won't have another light.
I gave it the texture "lightglow", which is in common/effects. As I was saying, I was only experimenting. I didn't know this would happen. :s

Try removing "lightglow" from the light's configuration.

Re: Cannot delete light
The light is deleted out of ZE. It's not even there anymore so there is no way to do that. It's still ingame though...

Re: Cannot delete light
So it still crashes? Hmm, did you burn the terrain?

Re: Cannot delete light
In your world1 folder find a file called 00T.LGT, open it in an editor and look at the contents, if there is any reference to your light delete and save the file and see if that helps.
Alternative to try, rename or delete the above mentioned file, open ZE and the do a save, it should have recreated a new .lgt file. Try munging with that and see what happens.
You can also check the other LGT files and see if anything is in those too.

Re: Cannot delete light
Yes it still crashes. I'm confident that the light is still there, since the whole map (the part of the map that I can look at without crashing) looks a lot brighter now. I'm not sure what burning the terrain means, but the terrain looks a lot brighter now.Marth8880 wrote:So it still crashes? Hmm, did you burn the terrain?
I did all of that and nothing is different. The light is still there, and the .lgt file is normal looking. It looks like any other .lgt file that has no lights in it.FragMe! wrote:In your world1 folder find a file called 00T.LGT, open it in an editor and look at the contents, if there is any reference to your light delete and save the file and see if that helps.

Re: Cannot delete light
Burning the terrain is where you have the editor burn, into the terrain, shadows cast by the terrain and shadows cast by objects. To reverse the effect, set your global top/bottom ambient light colors to 255 255 255, click Terrain, Burn Terrain.
I'll look more into your crashing problem when I get home from this musical; it's "Oklahoma!" at the 5th Avenue theater in Seattle (we're in the intermission).

I burned the terrain, and it doesn't crash anymore! Although the map is still extremely bright. Seriously when I go up to one of my models that has a white texture it hurts my eyes its too bright. >.<

Re: Cannot delete light
That's great to hear!
Now set the top/bottom ambient light settings to what you want your map's general color theme to be. Then, if your map has a sun, create a directional light, name it "sun" set Cast Specular and Cast Shadow both to Yes, and in the right-hand panel of Zero Editor, type in "sun" in the box called "Global Directional Light 1". If you don't have a sun, create a directional light with the same settings but use any name you want. Then, create a box-shaped region and give it a name; position and scale it to encompass the area of your map that you want to be affected by the directional light. Now, go back to your light and under "Bounding Box", put in the name of the region you just created. See the stock Death Star; it makes spectacular use of directional lights.
EDIT:
Oh, and for your directional light, set its color settings to the color that you want your light to be, as you probably already know.
Make sure the color isn't *too* bright, otherwise your units/vehicles and props with specular will glow a LOT.
