How to create models in XSI and other 3D applications and make them work in Battlefront 1 & 2. Post models, tips for application usage and share anything XSI, 3DMax, SketchUp, etc.
if you can't delete them, it's probably because they are parenting something, which was why they were created in the first place. if this is the case, you should just drag the child models so they are under dummyroot instead of those nulls. then you should be able to delete them.
yeah whenever theyre parent to something or if you delete anything thats parent to something itll make it a null so that it doesnt mess up the hierarchy, mod tools has this stupid way of when you create something though it gives it a parent null, you should go into the options and change it so that it doesnt, mod tools has alot of different settings than the full version that are so annoying.

Here is my first model, its a gun, i made it from a cylinder:
What do you think?
I don't know much about skinning in XSI so i just gave it something simple.
Is there any reasonably experienced modelers willing to do what is needed to get it ingame? ֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱֱ - Dragon93
all you gotta do is to make sure it's pointing WITH the Z-axis (the blue arrow )
Then you add a hp_fire at the barrel which is where it shoots the laser from and a hp_active where you hold the gun
of course you use DummyRoot as a MasterParent so everything is under the DummyRoot (just use a Null)
and if you're talking about exporting, I'd suggest you download a trial from Softimage.com of one of the other versions; 4,2 Foundations trial, 5.0 Foundations trial etc.
and before you ask any classic questions: you gotta export and import before you can get it into another version of XSI (other than Mod Tools)
4.2 mod tools has a limited renderer, just maximize the user view and set it to textured decal NOT shaded, open GL or direct3d and just take a screen shot of it.
the textures look incredibly plain, theyll look how they do in the textured decal view in game and NOT how they look in a render, that render is pointless since the textures wont look like that in game.
I got my refrence pic from a Star Wars Miniature I have. I suppose the textures on that are darker, but I think you mean that they are plain because it is just one colour (W/o lines etc.)
