I gotz me an Xbox
Now what should I get for it?
Thanks to the power of GameStop trade-in combined with Black Friday, I managed to get my hands on a 4GB Xbox360 and 4 games for only $13. with a new controller and some MS points, my grand total was $83. Steal? I think so.
Now my only problem is I don't know what to get for it...
Here's what I got with the deal:
- Soul Calibur IV
- DJ Hero
- Halo 3: ODST
- Medal of Honor: Limited Edition
+ Halo: Combat Evolved (was 400 MS points today, so I figured why not)
+ Portal: Still Alive (also 400 MS points today, even though I have Portal for PC)
Although I'm new to the Haloverse, I'm planning on getting Reach sometime, quite honestly the only reason my bro picked ODST instead of 3 by itself was because ODST has the entire Halo 3 multiplayer disc thingy. So here's my first question, should I play Combat Evolved, borrow Halo 2 from one of my 10,000 friends with a copy, rent 3, then trade in ODST for Reach when I'm done with it? Or should I keep ODST for the multiplayer?
Now my second question is probably more important to me, but what else is out there? I know there's alot of FPS's, such as CODMW2 or BlackOps, but quite honestly, the FPS genre gets boring after a while. I got Soul Calibur (and Portal, even though its a FPS its more of a puzzle game) and my bro got DJ Hero for a sort of reprive from the shoot'emup games, but I'd also like to know what else is worth my attention.

Keep ODST for the Halo 3 maps. While you may never get all the achievements for 3, at least you can play the maps if you want to. The DLC for the game still costs about 800, except for the Cold Storage map and Heroic Map Pack, which are free, but if you have the H3 MP disc you never have to pay for them.
I would honestly suggest getting Reach and keeping ODST/H3 MP. They both play differently and have their own charm.
For Non-FPS games, you already have Soul Calibur 4, so there really isn't much else out there.
I recommend Castle Crashers, a 4-player Beat'em Up, the Force Unleashed games, and maybe Halo Wars if you want to see how an RTS on a console works.
Also, if you were looking to play the Halo Series in order, it goes Halo Wars>Reach>Halo CE>Halo 2 (until the end of the Earth Levels)>ODST>Halo 2 (the rest of the game)>Halo 3

I already have both Force Unleashed games for my laptop, but I'll look into those others, thanks.Fusion wrote:For Non-FPS games, you already have Soul Calibur 4, so there really isn't much else out there.

Well, yeah, I knew the order (cept for Halo Wars, didn't really follow that release too much), but I think I want to play 'em in the order they were released. Kinda like watching the Star Wars movies, it just FEELS like the right thing to do.Fusion wrote:Also, if you were looking to play the Halo Series in order, it goes Halo Wars>Reach>Halo CE>Halo 2 (until the end of the Earth Levels)>ODST>Halo 2 (the rest of the game)>Halo 3

I don't mean to hijack, but what is the best 360 to get? I hear that 4gb isn't enough, and that the older models RROD while the new ones don't, but I also want to keep this economical. Any suggestions?

If you don't want to be inconvenienced with the occasional two week downtime caused by a RRoD, I would suggest getting the Slim/Liquid/New Xbox.
4GB is not enough, at the very minimum get a 20GB (which is what I've had to suffer with for the last few years), but a 120/250 is perfect for Live arcade games and installing games to your hard drive.

Actually, I have approximately 26,891 Flash drives lying around my house, so 4 GB is enough for me. All I need to do is swap out flash drives like memory cards depending on which game I want to play.

I'm a huge Xbox Live Arcade fan, so I can recommend a number of games from there:
*Crazy Taxi (only 10 bucks, well worth it)
*Castle Crashers (which is an absolute blast to play - very old school, but incredibly fun)
*Hydro Thunder Hurricane (this is pretty much the best arcade-style racing game ever)
*'Splosion Man (it's AMAZING, and if you buy it today it's only 160MSP - two bucks)
*Bionic Commando Rearmed (an HD remake/reimagination of the NES game)
*Trials HD (play the demo, it'll sell itself)

Do you need live to get these games?Teancum wrote:I'm a huge Xbox Live Arcade fan, so I can recommend a number of games from there:

Yes, you need to be able to connect to live. It can be a gold or a silver account though.

Should I be confused?Teancum, in another topic, wrote:Don't waste your money on Crazy Taxi. It hasn't stood the test of time. Playing it back then was fun. Now it feels like it's got awful controls and even worse graphics. I realize it's a port, but some higher res textures couldn'tve hurt.

Re: I gotz me an Xbox
Well, there are quite a few good rpgs for Xbox. First of all, the Fable series is Xbox exclusive and I'd highly recommend it. If you've missed out on the Mass Effect series, then that's a good buy, though it's also on PC. If you're into racing sims, Forza 3 is awesome. Then there are the arcade games, like Limbo and Shadow Complex are both great.

As for Indie party games, I Maed a Game Wit Zombies In It!!!1!!111 (It's actually something close to that) is a very fun 4-player top down twin-stick shooter. And for only $1, it's even more amazing.

Guitar Heroes and Rock Bands are pretty cheap used, so you might grab a couple of those. Halo Wars is a really good non-FPS too.
The best would be the 250 gig HD Slim, simply because it has all the HD space you will need, and you won't have to deal with any issues with Kinect (I heard you need like an extra power cable to make Kinect run on the old Xboxs) or other issues.Grev wrote:I don't mean to hijack, but what is the best 360 to get? Yeah, I spent more time playing it overnight and changed my opinion.Xavious wrote:Teancum wrote:*Crazy Taxi (only 10 bucks, well worth itShould I be confused?Teancum, in another topic, wrote:Don't waste your money on Crazy Taxi.
