*stops ninja attack on Fusion*
At least remove the post count, and maybe the rank system. The join date, I don't know, Whatever's fine with me.

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
They can be used in the same way as Post Counts- status symbols.
Personally, *activates Ninja-Attack shield* I believe if post counts go, so should join dates. That way the new members lose their "coolness," and so do the older members, it's only fair.

But then there is no way of knowing anything about anybody, quite frankly, I will seek the advice of someone more sage, in help topics, if that all goes, I have no point of refrence.
And its not like you can abuse the date you arrived, its static, you can't make yourself older then you are.
Its just ridiculous, and absurd.
Still, you have only provided One example where someone lorded his post count over yours, not enough to remove it for that reason alone.

Those are thoughts on the situation as well.Caleb1117 wrote:But then there is no way of knowing anything about anybody, quite frankly, I will seek the advice of someone more sage, in help topics, if that all goes, I have no point of refrence.

But if you feel the need to change something just make all of the off-topic post not count, if possible.
Or if you want to put a lot of work into it you could do a Reputation System....

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
Now that would be something
That is probably what we're getting at, indirectly. Keeping noobs from trying to make themselves look good by using these statistics. Reputation is the true thing that makes you look good, not post count and join date.

Yes and the only way that you can get more Rep is if other people give it to you.
Thus making it impossible to make yourself look more important by behaving like an idiot.

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
If I may quote myself.
It would be awesome
Read the page. But I do think we should add a reputation system.
Here's how it's set up at The Hive Workshop, a Warcraft 3 modding site that I frequent
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/show ... post320883
It works very nicely at The Hive.
Here at GT would promote helpfulness and would help to kill the "spam to make myself look important" mentality.
It would also make for better contests where the winner gets +Rep.
It would be awesome

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
I like it too, but so many people help out the "Nubs" that it would be hard to keep up with, Thus perhaps making the staff accidentally forget or miss a helpful post and then in the end an angry member. That's my thoughts. IMO.

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
The thing is that it's not only the admins that give out the Rep(although they certainly can) But everyone can give out rep.
So if someone helps you, you can say thank you by giving them Rep.

* All users may participate in the vBulletin reputation award system.
* Users must possess ten reputation points in order to add positive reputation points to others.
* Users may not add reputation awards or comments to their own profiles.
* A list of the reputation awards users have received is maintained in public profile pages.
o The 30 most recent awards are displayed.
* Award comments will be displayed to users only if the viewing user has permission to view the forum in which the specific reputation was awarded.
* Only administrators, forum moderators and respected users may impose negative reputation penalties.
* A system is in development to allow reputation awards in the resource sections.
* The reputation system may not be used in the chat room.
* Adding to a user's reputation is accomplished by:
1. Select the Add to User's Reputation button on forum posts:
2. Enter a comment in the pop-up window. vBulletin codes are accepted.
3. Press the Add to Reputation button to confirm the award.
* Reputation Power determines the number of reputation points added to other users:
o For each 100 reputation points a user possesses, he or she adds one point to the reputation totals of others.
o Administrators may set other reputation power modifiers.
* Reputation Spread Factor must be matched before adding reputation to the same user for a second time:
o Five other unique users must be awarded before one can add reputation to any user again.

Re: Concerning Off-Topic Posts
Is this supported on phpbb3?
Otherwise, I vote to adopt that system
