Super Smash Brothers Melee Turns Ten

Yes, 10 years ago today Super Smash Bros. Melee released for the Gamecube in both North America and Europe. I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw that this was true. Melee was a large part of my childhood and I thought it would be for the best if I started this thread, as it was no doubt a part of many of your upbringings as well. Feel free to discuss what made the game special for you in your messages.

I can still remember seeing the 24px24p pictures in Nintendo Power and thinking that it was the most graphically impressive game that could ever be released. The image of Sheik roundhouse kicking on Corneria and the 4 player match on Fountain of Dreams are images permanently embedded in my memory since seeing them in that article. I can still remember playing Hyrule Temple in Stamina mode for hours, unlocking characters I had never even heard of before ("What the heck is a Marth?") and leaving my Gamecube on overnight to unlock Mewtwo. The moment I finally felt ready to move on to different games was when I acquired enough skill to unlock the fight with and defeat Giga Bowser. It was just an amazing experience that I don't think any game since has been able to accomplish.
