-Halo 2 (PC) I totally agree with Fusion about doing this on Legendary, though I've not played past the third game. That hangar area in the first level with the progressively tougher Elites nearly brought me to tears.

-TMNT (NES) This game was always hard for me. I've actually never made it past the third level where you get to ride around in the Turtle Van. Also, try using Raphael's sais, and you'll find they have negligible range. You have to be really precise with them because of that, yet they are probably the weakest default weapon out of the four. The enemies, even a lot of the minor ones, are a fair challenge, unless you're on the surface map smashing Footsoldiers with one hit.

-Any Tomb Raider after Tomb Raider 2 I seriously have not been able to beat any of these without basically cheating and finding walkthroughs to help me out. Tomb Raider Anniversary is particularly difficult because it requires catlike reflexes in some places, and I'm stuck somewhere in Atlantis as a result. >_<

-Galaga ....

-Burai Fighter (NES) It's basically a side scrolling shooter with weird monsters, but it's very easy to get yourself killed by a sudden shift in the movement of the screen, which you have no control over, that leaves you trapped behind a wall to be crushed when the edge of the screen gets to you, the bosses have special weak spots you have to hit while touching any monster kills you instantly, and you're getting shot at! O_O

-Burger Time (NES) Ok, so you're a chef trying to make burgers while being chased by eggs, sausages, and dill pickles across a system of platforms and ladders. Your only defenses against them getting to you are dropping food on them, getting them to fall with the burger parts, or using your very limited pepper attack to stun them. Oh, and you can't jump, plus the levels are often made in ways to ensure you have to do something clever to avoid death. I can't say I've seen anything after the 6th or 7th level.

-Star Wars Battlefront (PC) Instant action with pants on head friendly AI often results in you being left to fend for yourself as the last reinforcement while the enemy rush your last CP with more troops than it should take to finish you off. If you're on foot, you'd better be superman.

-Sins of a Solar Empire (PC) If you don't get yourself running a good economy and some well composed fleets quickly (expansion), even easy and normal AI can zerg you. Don't expect to hold planets in the path of massive offensive fleets, either, unless you have a starbase there or an equally composed fleet to meet them. The AI also like to overpower your culture, so you need to have weak enemy culture on the planets to allow colonization and keep your culture strong to maintain allegiance. Also, the AI like to ally with each other without locked teams, which makes alliances tricky at best because they often ally with almost anyone they can. I haven't played stock Sins in a while, but this is what I remember, mostly from vanilla and Entrenchment. Did I mention there are pirates?

The Legend of Zelda (NES) !!! I'd played that game for years on the same save and still could not find the last bit of the Tri-Force, the red candle, or the red ring....all this while being able to find Ganon's dungeon and just about everything else. One day, I accidentally forgot the save procedure and BAM! No more save. -_- I have not touched it since that day.

It was a sequel, try Galaxian, you can only have 1 missile/bullet on the screen at a time, so you better not miss, of course that's your own missile, the enemy ships can fire as many as they want.

I only ever had trouble with BF1(PS2) was when the enemy AI was set to Hard. My favorite thing to do was play galactic conquest as the republic on Hard, it is nearly impossible to win. Certain maps are just heavy in the CIS favor, Kashyyyk: Islands is the worst, I played over 100 games of CW on Hard there, and I only won once out of every 7 games. I would still average 50 kills a match.

You think Galaga was tough? :funny2:
I'd like to see you get more than 7 or so levels in, then. -_-
I only ever had trouble with BF1(PS2) was when the enemy AI was set to Hard.
This is exactly what I was talking about. I always keep the AI on hard. As far as the maps go, you're doomed either way, so.. :P It's not that Islands is heavily in the enemy's favor by design but that the majority of CPs are in close proximity to each other and the AI on your team are about as much help here as anywhere else. I actually haven't played GC in forever, but I remember it being tough at one point, though not as tough as you say. I kept getting annoyed because the AI would fight me to a draw and I'd have to keep retaking Bespin over and over and over and over.. >_<

...and 50 kills? That's all? No wonder you were losing. You have to average something like 60-80 per battle, if I remember correctly, to even stand a chance.

That's it, I'm reinstalling this game! I've been meaning to do it since I reformatted in January.

About Galaga, try 33, not 7

And its harder on the PS2 to get over 50 on hard that it is on the PC.

I always thought the AI in SWBF were much better than SWBFII, and this is probably something I shouldn't admit to but I found some levels in Lego SW TCS really hard, and frustrating to beat, especially the Hoth level, and a few levels from ROTJ.

Yeah, there were some pretty hard levels in Ep. V and VI. I really had a hard time with the snowspeeder level; I would have hated it if it weren't so darned fun!

-Rogue Squadron (PC) - Quite honestly, I never beat this game without cheating on one or two levels. Now, don't get me wrong, overall the game's about medium difficulty, but that one level where you have to destroy the AT-AT and AT-ST factories in a snowspeeder, while avoiding missle turrets, was just too much. The Battle of Mon Calamari wasn't as frustrating, but still very difficult, as the World Devastators seemed to shoot you out of the sky as soon as you fly up to its top to destroy its shields.

I should also point out that the Trench Run level in Rogue Squadron II gave me lots of grief as well. :runaway:

It did the first 30 times I played the whole game, but after that it got pretty easy, I would punch it the whole way. SWRS2 for the win.

I don't recall posting about Galaga for you to belittle my thoughts. It was enough that you laughed at me, but you've taken this attitude too far. You know what? I could just as easily do the same to your problems with SWBF, PS controller handicap or not, but I don't. I really don't care if you think you're some bigshot here, but you'd do well to start respecting other's opinions. I mean, really, how would you feel if I just started in on your losing in Galactic Conquest and talking about how great I am in comparison? It wouldn't feel very good, now would it?

First, chill man
Second, you seemed to think I had no idea what I was talking about when it came to galaga, so I said what level I could get to.
Third, if I had wanted to attack you, it would have been over the fact you DID belittle me on my kill rate for Kashyyyk Island on Hard.
Forth, surprise surprise, someone on the Internet has a different opinion of something. I felt if you were going to mention Galaga, you should have mentioned Galaxian instead, thats all. Because I feel its a tougher game. I never said Galaga wasn't tough, and I played it for years at my friends house, he has/or had, been awhile since I saw him, a room full of arcade games. About a dozen. Galaga, Galaxian, Bosconian, He has a lot of great games. Most arcade game were tough, because they were designed that way so you would feed corporate America's hungry Maw. Again, I wasn't belittling you, I was saying that a similar game was tougher, I have never gotten passed level 8 on Galaxian(My dad beats me every time when we play, he is a master of galaxian)

Now then, hard games to get us back on topic:
Ninja Gaiden (Look it up)
Portal (not altogether challenging, but a thinker nonetheless)
Legend of Zelda (I dare you to beat the original NES rendition without a guide)

There. Three difficult games (Portal is debatable). Discuss.

First, I'm not yours to command. Secondly, I never said anything about you not knowing what you were talking about, and if that were the case I would've posted it clearly. I don't do that passive-aggressive crap. Third, I most certainly didn't belittle your SWBF kill count. I said what amounts to 50 kills is not enough because it often takes more than that to win, which you'd already essentially said yourself, if you think about it. Incredulity does not equate to belittling, and had I wanted to belittle you I would've posted something far worse, like mentioning my kill counts for comparison, etc. Fourth, contrary to what you believe, this thread isn't about THEWULFMAN's opinion on what everyone's posting. This isn't even about your having an opinion. You didn't have to say Galaga wasn't tough, since you'd already laughed about it, and you made a choice to continue posting about it after I'd not only shown my annoyance, but mentioned how troublesome it is to get past the first few levels. That wasn't asking for you to brag or make it out that my opinion is somehow insufficient. I consider that trolling. I also cannot talk about a game I've never played, and I'm not about to adjust my opinion based on someone else's say-so. Remember, you made the choice to come after my response to the thread, not the other way around. For that matter it wasn't simply what you said, but how you said it, which was in a very condescending manner, and I don't suffer such things lightly.

You're right about Portal being debatable as a difficult game, as I honestly found it too easy through my first run. It wasn't until about chamber 15 or 16 where it gave me some difficulty, and even then, I caught on pretty quick. I'm hoping Portal 2 is more challenging.

You might be in a for a disappointment, then. It's not an easy game, per se, but its very similar to the difficulty of Portal 1. After fiddling around with what you can do with the portals in the level, the answer comes to you, then you execute and move on. I put Portal in the difficult games list not because it's hard, but because it makes you think differently than other games.

Portal 1 is a bit more of an acrobatic challenge, Portal 2 is a logical one. In Portal 1 you had to execute plenty of complex jumps and maneuvers to get to the end, in Portal 2 that is not required, all you need to do is think. The only reason why the original seems harder is because it's more difficult to put your ideas in motion

Overall difficulty is debatable, it varies from person to person.

I agree. With what I've played with Portal 2 so far, I've definitely had to really think about how the puzzles work more often than I did with Portal 1, and it has been less acrobatically focused.

And difficulty definitely varies in puzzle games. Some people (like Ping, it seems) are very good at puzzles, while some people are not. I am definitely closer to the latter case.

in my opinion portal 2 is still easier without looking at the complex movements. in portal 1 i spend half hours in the last 5 chambers or so, in portal 2 i was only stuck once. to me it seems like portal was more about puzzling while portal 2 focuses on experimenting with the cool new devices, moving through interesting environments and of course on the story

Ugh, that low gravity portion was a pretty scrappy part of the game. Of course, the previous installments in the series were more challenging overall; one level in Dark Forces requires you to go through part of a level with just your fists.

Speaking of which, who here got frustrated with the third level of Dark Forces? Too many dianogas...
