Weeeellll... You could, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a lowrez mesh at all. But, yes, you could.

reduce the polygons on the lowrez, if you dont then theres no point in making it since if you dont add one the game just makes a copy of your model, lowrez meshs' are there to help fps so the game doesnt render a high detail model at distances where you wouldnt even notice it, c'mon poeple use your heads! >_<
EDIT: also name your parent object DummyRoot, MS3dSceneRoot is pointless since ms3d had no involvment with the making of this game and NONE of pandemics models had that as the parent and ive never had to use it.

Just as a kind of related question... How do you use the polygon reducer function of XSI?

the polygon reduction tool can sometimes be messy to more complicated models, sometimes its easier to just make a new model outta some simple shapes thats close to the same as the actual model but is just blockier and lower detail, it also helps to use a lower detail texture on the LOD too.

I´ve never added a Null as parent and don´t see a reason todo so.
Minilogo, there is a reason to use lowrez models even if the model isn´t lower in polygons. If you create some background models they would switch out in the distance if they doesn´t have the lowrez model.

the whole thing about the null was about the model parent or dummyroot, they were naming it ms3dsceneroot. if you dont create a lowrez its the same as making a copy of the original mesh and not lowering the polygons, when you compile the game just copies your mesh if it cannot find a lowrez, its pointless to make a lowrez and not lower its polies.

actually if you don't make a lowrez the model just fades out when you get too far away.
