When my comp crashed I was able to see that black screen with sometimes white scribble and other times words on it before it would crash, I then noticed it said to launch the computer in safe mode. I did that, it worked. Now I have one of those giant 75 gig usb ports, so I was able to copy all my files off. Then took it in to a proffesional to fix the computer. He erased everything that was on it, but then I had the copied files and copied them back in. I don't know if this helps you or is even relevant, but it worked for me.

If it shuts off no matter what you do (even in BIOS), and it gives you a "fan error", I'd suspect it's your CPU fan. My advice would be to let the professionals work on it.
