Anyone else see this movie? I though it was pretty good. Not as good as the first one, but not deserving of the terrible reviews in the Free Press that I heard about. My review:
Good:
-Director was obvious (Hey, I think it's good)
-Action scenes were good
-Pretty funny
-New autobots were nice cars
-Pretty good story
-Acting was good
Bad:
-Just seemed like a 2-and-a-half-hour Chevy commercial. Not that I hate Chevys, but the driving scenes were at commercial-y angles.
-Battle dialogue wasn't that great. I mean, same with the first movie, but whatever.
-Never learned the names of the new autobots (If you did, I never heard it)
**SPOILERS**
Hidden/Spoiler:
-The Decepticon that tried to rape Sam was stupid.
-The twin autobots and the little decepticon that became Meghan Fox's pet were bad characters IMO.
-Leo.
That's my review. Not complete, just all stuff from memory.
Overall, I gave the movie an 8/10.

This slams most of the problems with the movie I had. I was disapointed...

Watching it in 3 hours. I've heard great things from my friends, and terrible things from critics.

Critics get on my nerves. They're like boring beta testers, but for movies that are finished. They never look for anything good. They look for all of the "bugs." And then they tell the worldabotu teh bugs. And they really think it sucks, because they never really saw any of the good stuff. Or, at least, that's how they seem from full reviews.

Sometimes the bad overpowers what little good there is...

They're not called cheerleaders, they're called critics. It's their job to be critical.

I know, but most people I know (not just kids, either) almost never agree with critics. So when they write a review, they're always making a movie sound worse than it actually is, IMO.

A good critic points out the flaws in the movie to the ends of making sure a person gets a balanced opinion of a movie before going in. You get all the good stuff from the advertising campaign of a movie - opposite a critic, it's the marketing exec's job to make sure all the best points of a movie are pointed out.

There's a lot of in-between and there are lots of people who don't know how to give coherent opinions one way or another ("this sucks!" "best ever" neither with any support). Most of the time critics will spend most of their article discussing issues they found with the movie, but usually you'll figure out if they enjoyed it or not fairly often.

I could write a whole lot on understanding how critics might work and think, but in the interest of being succinct I will simply say that not everyone is satisfied with junk food, least of all those who spend their time trying lots of different kinds of food.

Sortof off-topic, but what I hate about critics is they always like some off-the-wall movie you've never heard of.

So true.

I myself haven't seen the movie, and don't really care to, but a friend of mine has seen it, and let's just say... his Facebook status was "Just saw Transformers 2... Wow!" for like, 2 days. So yeah, he liked it.

If you've never heard of it, how do you know if it's good or bad?

The food analogy holds up - these people are like gourmets. They've tried a lot of food and it's easier for them to pick a specific favorite. If you've eaten one thing hundreds of times (read: Transformers 2 and movies like it), you're going to end up wanting some more substantial fare.

That's not to say critics are always right or wrong, but they are people with opinions and it is important to understand that the vast majority aren't doing this out of some spite borne towards summer moviegoers. Their opinions are not invalid.

Incidentally, I've heard similar reports to what the critics have given from other people I trust to give accurate feedback that I usually end up agreeing with. It doesn't look like a big thing in my book, although I may end up seeing it eventually just because I do enjoy the big screen and movies on it.

I thought the movie was pretty good. There were a lot more loose ends here than there were in the first, and there were new bots that didn't serve any purpose in the film, such as the Audi Decepticon in the beginning. I would have liked to see more character building (giving backgrounds and stories to the bots).
Hidden/Spoiler:
And I think the movie could have been done completely without the Alice character. The whole human-transformer concept is far too cheesy. Plus whatever conflict she sparks between Micaila and Sam are resolved in the next scene, so she really didn't serve her purpose well.

Excuse the vulgarity but:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Bay will use as many choices as possible to showcase, and in her case, upskirt, good looking women. Notice all the girls in the college were relatively good looking? It's Bays style.
Overall, I really liked it. The parts I thought I'd hate I liked, and the parts I thought I'd like, I did like.

The once part that annoyed me a bit was the fact that the large final battle was REALLY long, and the main final battle between Prime and The fallen was less than a minute long.

I saw it and have to say I thought it was pretty good.

He really has a problem with face related kills, doesn't he? Bonecrusher in movie 1, tried to headlock Megatron in movie 1,
Hidden/Spoiler:
shot Demolisher in the head, ripped off The Fallen's face...

He seemed extremely aggressive in this movie.

I've seen it twice and really couldn't stand sitting through it again. It was alright, nothing to get excited over though. Once again the original beats the sequel.

I heard that it got bad reviews, then I heard from my friends that it was awesome!!( :runaway: )

ARRGGHHH!!

Well, ultimately, I want to see it and from what I have read people seemed to like it just fine. Though there wasn't enough character development from what I hear.

:| Of course he did.

Before he died, meh. I can't explain it. Afterwards, though... OF COURSE HE'S AGRESSIVE. Who wouldn't want a chance to avenge themselves?
