Modelling Programs
I've seen two modelling programs, Gmax and Renx. Has anyone else heard of these programs? Can they be used in BFII in any way?

Re: Modelling Programs
ahhh...good ol' gmax. I did use it for awhile, but i was never able to successfully get it ingame. I did manage to get it into XSI, so maybe there's hope for it one day when i'm bored. never heard of renx.
The best thing to do is just get the free version of XSI. It works great for me, although it can be less user-friendly than gmax sometimes

But can you put what you make in the free version of XSI into your map? I've heard that you need the full, paid version to do that.

Not necessarily. Ever heard of Repsharpshooter's excellent Meshex my friend?

What most people here use is the XSI || Modtool 6, which you get can read about and download here:

Not for a few more days, actually. The downloads are down.

Re: Modelling Programs
Well, the page says it'll be back up in early December, and it is early December, so that's good.
From what I read, RepSharpShooter's thing requires another piece of software from that company that is currently down and will be back up in December.
A question: what exactly does Rep's utility do? There was a short list in the topic but I don't know what it means....

If you still want to use gmax, let me know. There's a way to export obj from gmax to XSI modtools then to BF2. Honestly I prefer max because I grew up using it.

Re: Modelling Programs
I'll wait for the download page to get back up, then I'll compare the two. I'll probably stick with Gmax, though, since I also make models for another game, which works best with Gmax.
