Hi all!

I have setup another game server for TAW's Star wars division. I can get teh server to run and be stable on 1.3, but the problem is Gamespy says that i have a ping of 9999. this is wrong because people can join and play just fine, ping times around 100-120 or so. i have been to the Gamespy arcade help page and it's not much help. i opened all the ports that it says to, and it still shows up as 9999. i shut the session down and restarted it a few times, and it's still the same. does anyone have any ideas?

p.s. i don't check here often, so please email me at [email protected]

thanks in advance,
Banzai

There is another port you must need to open , as i dont recall the port number but gamespy receives an update packet every 30 seconds regarding each servers status... its the same thing when setting up dedicated on a home pc using zone alarm. When the game loads it asks for one local port to run the game on, one to send packets for MP games and another when the dedicated server loads up. Wish I knew the exact port but Im positive its higher then 14000. If you do open > port 14000 as a test this can be confirmed.

Hope this helps.

zone alarm?

i think some of the problem that i am having is that my router does not allow incoming pings.

my router won't allow it.

to maintain my network security can i put i hub inbetween my router and modem? and then conenct the server to teh hub? i'd connect the router to the hub to keep my network secure...will that work?

OK Banzai....
If you are behind a firewall/proxy, GameSpy Arcade needs the following TCP ports open in order to function:
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

DO NOT open all ports at once. Major is 27900, try to open one by one until you have result.
Try with this, maybe you will have your ping response OK.
When I find ports for SWBF I will post it here.
It is not a solution to make changes with hub instead router.

Hm Hm
I found this on LucasArts....

Hosting Behind A Firewall
Servers that are hosting behind a firewall will not return a ping value and will always display a 9999 Ping.

You will also need to open the following port for the game stats to be updated correctly (related to GameSpy):
29920 (Gamestats Server)

The following ports may need to be opened for GameSpy servers to see the game:
3658
3659
6500
