I guess this is the "Official Announcement" of it. At the end of the teaser, it says backwards "Game Informer 04.16.09" so I guess we can expect some more information soon.
Looking forward to this as I LOVED the first one.

Before anyone asks
Additionally, thanks to a Joystiq tipster it's been revealed that you can pull up some cool 3-D models of the knife attachment by printing out the symbol at the end of the teaser trailer and holding it up to a webcam while on the site. The site doesn't offer a whole lot else, but we'll keep checking to see when it gets updated.
Haven't tried it meself, seeing as I don't own a webcam, but just to answer any questions people may have about the end.

That are the first Hints about AC2:

Is it a Mid-Age Apperature to fly?
Is it 16 Century?

I believe Leonardo da Vinci attempted to make a device so people could fly, but when he let one of his students test it, here's two words to describe what happened: Epic Fail. Didn't work at all. Looks like it will be featured in the next Assasin's Creed. I've never played the game, but I've heard that it's great.

Bunch more news came out this week:
Including the supposed cover of the Gameinformer article mentioned above
Meet Ezio, the new white-clad contract killer taking over for Altair in Assassin's Creed II.
Issue 103 of Game Informer magazine should be hitting store shelves next week, featuring the world exclusive reveal of Assassin's Creed II, with Ezio dramatically posing on the front cover. Ezio is a young noble who lost his family to rival families and is out for revenge, or at least I am assuming he's out for revenge. He could be just fine with it, having wanted to be an assassin anyway.

Assassin's Creed 2 is now set in the year 1496, in Florence, Italy, at the height of the Renaissance.
EDIT: Wth? I can't post a super-long quote, apparently.
Well, here's another link

Read all about it in the May edition of the Official Xbox Magazine. Sounds really cool but I've never played the first one so I dunno much about it.

I think it's worth noting that Ezio has all five fingers on both hands.
Perhaps he's a wannabe assassin clan member?

Yeah, I read the article in my friend's Game Informer. Looks promising, hopefully the flying feature turns out to be as cool as it looks.

Thankee for the new avatar
I just hope that, with all the improvements in gameplay, there will be much more replayability value than the first.

This looks awesome, but I'm terrible with fly-ee things (Always crash ect) so I look foreward to crashing on purpose in AC2, if those wings aren't cut from the final version.

Wow.

This is epic! As far as I can tell from that, I love the fact that you can disarm people and that the hidden items actually help you.

It might be a direct sequel, just using a different ancestor of Desmond's instead of Altair....

Assassin's Creed slated for a Holiday 2009 release, and new trailer
Softpedia wrote:Assassin's Creed was one of the most innovative games of 2007, showcasing a unique type of stealth gameplay in which you played an ancient assassin during the Crusades at the beginning of the 1100s in the Middle East. But, sadly, what it gained with scenery and innovation it lost with the repetitive missions and the somewhat stupid deaths.
We've already heard Ubisoft announce its sequel and, thanks to the teaser campaign created by the company, we’ve received confirmation that the game will be set in Italy during the 1400s, with the player wearing the hooded cape of Ezio, a nobleman of Florence who was betrayed by the influential families that were ruling the country at that time.
Now, Ubisoft has decided to reveal a second trailer with a few tidbits of information about the story of the game, emphasizing the importance that the famous inventor Leonardo Da Vinci will have in the title, and saying that history during the Renaissance was written in blood.
At the end of the video, the familiar eagle sound that played in specific moments in the first game is heard, hinting that Ezio is a descendant of Altair, who was the protagonist of the original Assassin's Creed. Hopefully, more details about his quest for vengeance will be revealed soon.
“Our creative team is working hard to top the experience of Assassin's Creed,” said Patrice Desilets, creative director at Ubisoft. “We've made improvements to every aspect of the game. We've plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin's Creed experience.”
Here is the second teaser trailer, which gives us a few glimpses into the story of the game, courtesy of GameTrailers.

Not exactly the most exciting trailer ever, it's a bit cheesy to be honest

Personally Id like to see a ninja assassins creed (a realistic one, not like those ninja gaiden stuff) set in medieval japan.
As for gameplay I hope there will be more stealth elements like in Thief or Splinter Cell and more interiors. Perhaps day night change, would be realy nice.
