You can get away with almost anything for pirates. If you look at my old Tientia map, I used some really random models for pirates....I believe one was a R2-series astromech.
Though to be fair, most of them sucked. One was a stormie Han with a marsh-green face. Gods, what was I thinking?

if i were you i would reskin leia, han, luke, reb engineer, mundi, dooku, and maul, and mace is a good model.

They say its one of the best I think that aswell

If you've ever played Mysteries of the Sith before, then you can get some good ideas from there, as I seem to remember you encounter space pirates in two or three different levels.
