How do you apply a XML shader?

Anyone have any clue on how to apply a XML shader to a custom made mesh from XSI? I not sure if its done in XSI or not? There is a shader folder in the common folder of each datafolder for maps, but I don't have any idea where to start?

Any ideas? :?:

I'm talking about that shine sheen on objects.
