What? So you open the particle editor and Battlefront II runs? I've never heard of that before. Check maxloef's particle editor tutorial to find out how to get it working. (Use the search function.)

Ok now I have a question about the Particle Editor.
I got it working, following the tutorial created by maxloef.
It doesn't read common.lvl though. Same problem that occurs in the tutorial topic.
The effects that show up are blocks. I don't quite understand how to get them to look normal. Could someone tell me how to do this?

They never do, Karnage... You have to use your imagination for the textures, and also, some types of effects don't show up at all, so you REALLY have to use your imagination. To be honest, sometimes I just edit the .fx files w/ notepad ++.

yeah it says can not read common.lvl when i opened it and i still have no idea how to edit whatever your supposed to edit becasue a blank grid shows up when i start it up

You generally have to open a shipped effect from the assets, SAVE IT UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME, and then edit it.

The effects don't show up as blocks if you do it correctly. Have a look at max's tutorial first and then look
here.

Ok so what I do is add the munged .fx files and the munged .tga for the .fx files in where?

Put it in Data_ModID\_LVL_PC\Munged. You have to create the munged folder. The particle editor needs to go in Data_ModID\_LVL_PC. You'll still get the common.lvl error, but everybody does and it makes no difference.

where is the folder Data_ModID though?

<Sigh> When you create a map it asks you for the three letter name does it not? Those three letters/numbers are your ModID. So say you put N9R then it would create a folder called Data_N9R. You would then go into that to find the folder called _LVL_PC.

O i thought there would be a folder with the exact name DATA_ModID

It's OK, when I started modding, I didn't know how to open the .wld file to edit it!
That's why, when I give directions I use *** for the Mod ID, then put: (*** = 3 letter mod ID ) after it so peope know. I never liked putting ModID there, it sounded confusing to me too.

and i really want to get into modding but zeroeditor doesnt seem to like my computer. ive tried changing resoulution and color and ive d/led it 6 times . mabye ill try it on my mom's comp

cause its the only comp in the house thats not a laptop lol

You don't know about ZE?
JK, JK. ZE, or Zeroeditor is the application used to edit the terrain in your map. In Data_*** (*** = 3 letter mod ID ) there should be a file called Zeroeditor.exe. Double click on it. then Press the "load" button in the Upper Left corner of the screen(no quotes). Then in the window, navigate to data_***\worlds\***\world1, you should see a file called ***.wld, open it, then press the W, S, A, and D buttons to move, but I suggest moving up using the F key first (W moves forward, S back, A left, D right, F and V move up and down) to see more controls, look in the Zeroeditor_guide doc in BF2_ModTools\documentation. I also suggest reading the "Getting started" doc and other useful documentation provided.
