.3ds --> XSI Modtool 6.01

I found a nice .3ds model, and I've tried to get it into Modtool to play around with it, but it won't seem to work. What I did is, I downloaded Blender (which can import it; XSI crashes when I try to import .3ds) and imported the model, then exported it as a .xsi and a .obj. The .xsi one crashes Modtool, while the .obj one has no UV's. How could I get the .3ds file into XSI with UVs intact and no crashes?

.3ds should be able to be imported directly into ModTool.

Ah, I wish I could read.
Try
THIS. I know it's talking about VRML, but Vivaty accepts .3ds as well.

For some reason, I am unable to install Vivaty. It talks first about not being able to find some file, then having insufficient privilages. I tried running the installer as an administrator, but when I right-click there isn't any "Run as Administrator" option.
EDIT - Never mind, I got it installed. I'm having a bit of trouble with it, though.
I'd try to import the .3ds file. The first time I try, the importer freezes. The second time, I get it in. Then (without texturing it) I try to export it as a .xsi file. I do manage to make some type of file, but it doesn't have any extension, just a name. So I give it a .xsi extension. Then Vivaty freezes.
I put that in XSI, though, and it seems to work. I'll try texturing it and see if that works.
EDIT 2 - Ok. The UVs are preserved for a few objects, but on most they are way off. Why is this? Perhaps I'm going about reapplying the textures the wrong way. I'm not using the render tree, but instead clicking Get\Materials\Phong, then the plug, then Image\New\New From File. That's the way I've done it before. When I try using the render tree XSI freezes.
EDIT 3 - Heh. I tried the Render Tree method with just a plain cube and got a bluescreen and an automatic computer restart.
