Editing ODFs
I seem to have an issue when I try to save edited odf files and I can't seem to find out why it is happening. I don't know if it has to do with my Notepad not being able to save in ODF format or something else. I have a group of screens here to show you all what I'm talking about. I was following the Editing Sides tutorial in this section of the site since I am a beginner. Thanks for any help.

Re: Editing ODFs
Right-click on the file, select "Properties", then uncheck the "Read Only" option in the window that is opened, or save the edited file under a different file name, delete the original file and rename the edited file such that is has the name of the original file.

Re: Editing ODFs
Ok that was simple thanks. I have another question. If you edited the texture of a projectile, where would you put it under your ABC file?
EDIT: Would you place effect files under /Worlds/ABC/Effects/ file?
Sorry I'm asking alot of questions, but I know I'd be done after these are answered.

Re: Editing ODFs
Well for effects I'm fairly sure you put them in the effects folder like you said. And it worked for me on my bespin walkways with the steam coming out so it should work for you!
About the texture change part, I don't quite get what your saying. What is the file location? If you changed a file you can just save it where it stands ((as long as you have a backup of the original file, example: if the file got copyed to your map from assets there will be a copy still in assets so you can just edit your file and save it with the same name since it's a file specificly for you map and you can always delete it and replace it with the stock copy of the file if something goes wrong!))
EDIT: If your doing a sides mod I'd try to find someone who is more in that line, because I'm not very knowledgable on side moding stuff so I will do my best to help just don't quote or rely to heavly on any of my sugjestions

Re: Editing ODFs
Well I'm trying to do more of a sides mod rather than a map, so does the effects file apply both to maps and side mods?
Hold on I'll check a few files. I think I may have overlooked something.
Edit: I got the projectiles from the under the Assets/ CommonEffects folder. Now I don't know if this is similar to the effects folder under the ABC/Effects file.

Re: Editing ODFs
if its for a side weapon, put it in the sides effects folder(you maybe have to create one).

Re: Editing ODFs
Ok, so as long as the effect was gotten from a effect folder and went in your mod project effect folder it should do fine! (tip: just make sure that files like odf, msh.option, and similar readable text files are checked to make sure that if they point to another file that you have that pointed to file also!) Hope this helps

Re: Editing ODFs
Ok thanks guys. I'll figure this out. Tomorrow or maybe tonight I'll see if this'll work out. If anything I bet it will with issues though lol. And ADEWEGET I'm doing a private mod with your ARF trooper so I'm not expecting to release it all. I think you did a good job on it and I will test it out once I figure out how to replace certain troopers with others.
Edit: Ok things did not go according to plan. I noticed the REP side file that resulted from the munge is 2,000kb less than the original sides file and I tried putting it ingame and it did not work. I'v been trying to figure it out with no success. I'm not where I want to be.

Re: Editing ODFs
What is the effect like maybe that is what is causing the trouble, [in the REP folder were the MSH and ODF folders add a effects folder and put effects in there and add them in the odf's]

if you ever edit anything that has to do with your side it goes in what side folder you are edtingRaptor_101 wrote:Ok that was simple thanks. I have another question. If you edited the texture of a projectile, where would you put it under your ABC file?

Re: Editing ODFs
Ok. I allowed the sides file to stay in the map and I tested it ingame. The edited ODFs worked however the edited textures did not. Also as mentioned earlier the REP side file was 2,000 kb less than the one in the sides folder for the game which puzzles me seeing that I am trying to add to the sides file, not take away anything.

Re: Editing ODFs
I have that sometimes after I munge, a small side file, I means something has gone wrong. You may have to back track, check all your odf's and redo the textures. Or put some things back to default to isolate the problem.

Re: Editing ODFs
I'll take all of this into account. The ODFs worked when I tried the map. All I really did was change the glow colors on the blue lasers just to experiment, just the texture was my issue. The trooper and pilot turned out to be completely black. I've saved the edited textures as .tga's as they should be saved as.
