well....sense i have nothing to do over the summer, ill contribute a lot and help wherever i can in GT :P so....lets get started!
Working in ZE:
NOTE: in my opinion, the ze doc was the best, except that a ton of things were unclear.
1) i dunno if it works like this with all zeroeditors, but in mine, i could not see anything!! i even loaded it! but now i know. you press "f" to zoom out and "v" to zoom in. the arrow keys change the angle. (oh, and that brings up a point. if youve never worked in ze, you must load the map first. just press the load button and find ABC.wld)
2) that should help him a bit if he can actually see whats going on
3) objects: to add an object, go to the "objects" tab and then press browse. go into your "world" folder and use whatever is there. (and if you dont know how to add objects, there should be absolutley nothing there! ) so what you do is open up the assets folder, and then choose a world. KAS will be our example. so you open up "KAS" and copy the "msh" and "odf" folder. now paste these under youre world 1 folder in youre map. now go back to ZE and browse into the "odf" folder you copied...and just pic an object! the rest on simply adding objects is self-explanatory.
4) water is a little complicated...look here for advice: http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... er#p243233
5)height--raises the height of certian areas of the terrain. to get started, zoom out so you see textures. now there should be a 4x4 square. you can change this to how ever big you want it. and choose the shape. and make the brish "raise" and the pressure "100". now just start shaping!
6) texture...change the color or look of the terrain. choose one that is there, or "browse" to another one. keep in mind the "other one" must be in youre "world 1 folder"

Thats basically everything simple about ze. keep in mind, there is nothing simple about ZE and this is a quick help. it is not supposed to be a walktrough on everything there is to know. there are other things to know such as planning and what not, but on a beginner map, thats not completley necessary. anyways, hope this helps, and good luck!

he is stuck on getting certain odf's into the program

he has alreaady made a first map but is now working on a new Tatooine map with someone else

another thing he wanted to ask is how do u change the size of the terrain platform
because he wants to make a long but narrow map
including some buildings and a few props

first of all, if you change the terain mid map constructoin, all your obj will be in the wrong spot ingame, so it is the first thing in a map you want to do. so heres how you do it, in the upper right hand corrner, there is a button "terrain", a window will apear in the middle of the screen, on the bottom of that screen there is a button "creat new terrain", click it.
now there are 2 text windows in anoter small window w/ zeros in it, x and z dementions of the map, change em to what you want but if you dont create dimentions of 4 (4 8 12 16 22 .... 256... 512... 1024.. and so on) it will atomaticaly make it to the nearest.
