r38 and r117 patches

Hey, I'm trying to uninstall the r38 1.3 patch to install the r117, but for some reason when I try to uninstall the r38 it says "access is denied". Any reasons for this? I am running as administrator on my computer. My dad said to try downloading the patch again and installing it, but since it comes with the Convo Pack does that mean I have to install the Convo Pack again? Or is there a separate file I can download for the r38 patch?
Any help would be great.

Just delete all those files, then run the r117 menu and install.
The worst that will happen will be that r117 will fail to install and you will have to reinstall the game. If not, then everything will work fine.

But uhhh... wouldn't the earlier version still be installed? Because I tried that already, and the new space marine went back to the old clone trooper instead of the newer model.
And what do you mean "reinstall the game"? The Convo Pack or the entire game itself?
EDIT
Ugh, this is annoying. Ok, so I did what you said, remove all the files, and then create a folder called "AA-v1.3patch" in my addon folder, and place all the files in there. Then I click on the menu.bat to install, but it still says "access is denied"... I dunno what to do!

You're running Vista with BF2 installed in Program Files?

Yes.

The problem then is not you, but instead protocols that are implemented in Vista that don't allow you to directly change files in the Program Files folder. Your choices are playing around trying to install the patch through virtual store (search this site for what that means) or you can uninstall BF2 and reinstall into a directory apart from Program Files and its subdirectories, then you won't have any more problems like this in the future.
