Off-topic : Might I know if one - Or even more ! - of the GameToast members having posted messages inside the current thread has / have eventually planned on either writing a "Review" based on The Matrix Online Trial or post Comments and Remarks regarding this Sony Online Entertainment video-game ?

I'm gonna write a review once I know what it's like.

Downloaded and installed it no problem, but my internet is down at home. Hopefully tonight I can give it a spin.

It's pretty good, I D/L'd it the other day and I prefered it to SWG. It's got a great intro, really gets you into the mood. Server did appear to be a little empty when I was on but it was still good. I'll be playing and exploring more later. I'ts a big download as far as I can remember about 2GB and yep definately free, you can use your gamespy ID details.

Maybe I'm just not an MMO guy, but I played this for literally 10 minutes, 'jacked out' and uninstalled. At least the SWG trial was cool enough to finish completely.

At present I've only tried trials for 2 MMORPG's SWG and Matrix Online so all I can do is compare the both. However this is what I thought about The Matrix Online:

The trial starts of very well and the whole "choose the blue pill" or "choose the red pill" thing as well as the being "flushed from your pod" and being picked up by the Nebuchadnezzar, sets the scene well and gets you in the mood for the game. There's a good tutorial that you initially go through, similar to Neo's training in the film. Once all that is done you're out in the "real world" with other real people you can chat to. Initially you spawn at a Phone point on an industrial estate, it's a little deserted but well worth going round learning and perfecting your moves, earning credits and advancing your level. It may seem a little slow after a while but it's worth doing a short a stint there. Leave the industrial area and then go and explore the wider world, the graphics are really pretty good. There's at least a couple of ways of fighting, shooting from a distance or the "close combat" mode where you're doing all the cool Matrix moves, dodging bullets, slow mo, double handed shooting and much more. It's funny to do a bullet dodging roundhouse kick to the groin, followed by a punch to the head. There's throws, head butts and so many different moves you can throw in, combat can be great and a search of the "corpse" can be rewarding, you don't only find credits there's other neat stuff and clothing you can pick up too. Hone your skills and choose which part of your personality you want to upgrade, this will also help your combat skills. Like SWG there are missions but you can recruit other real life members to assist you. Around the matrix there are traders, collectors, coders, hackers etc... all that you to aquire, buy and sell new items. Connect up to various "hardlines" (phonebooths) and these allows you to do several things, spawning in new places, uploading, upgrading etc...

Maybe it's just because the SWG trial was so limited but the Matrix Online feels like it has more to it. This is probably not the case. MMORPG's will pretty much all be very similar and the fact that both SWG and The Matrix online are both SOE means that they are probably even more similar. Ultimately I think it'll come down to what you prefer, SW or Matrix, but solely going on the trials Matrix comes off better and personally held my attention for far longer. I feel it's well worth a try.

Generally reviews put The Matrix Online alot higher in the ratings than SWG.

I recommend visiting http://www.mmorpg.com and getting a full list of reviews for all MMORPG's as well as being a good rescource for finding and trying new ones. If you are seriously considering getting an MMORPG you need to look there. City of Villains is the latest trial I think although there are links to many more on there.

No doubt people will disagree with this so carry on posting your thoughts and findings.
