Apparently Simple XSI help needed!

Ok, I set out trying to get an object with a terrain cutter in my map, but I want to make a smaller one than already in the assest, so I downloaded xsi 7.5 right now, and I've installed it. I've read a whole bunch of tutorials and such, and went through nearly all the 75 pages of this 3d moddeling section, and found this:

http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... =36&t=2905

This tutorial isn't very good becuase It just said to create a terrain cutter, when I have no idea how to do that, I thought that was what a tutorial is. Right now, I'm just trying to get a simple model exporting into a .msh, like many people are talking about here. But I don't see anywhere where there is a .msh option to export. Is there an addon for this, because people are talking about it on the posts and I don't see it anywhere linked to a download. I've imported a hoth asset: hoth_bldg_corridor_cut.msh

I've used the mshtool to make it into an object so that I could import to xsi, but I can't even export it as a .msh anywhere. So, any help that would be great, and if you want to, you can also provide some insight into creating a terrain cutter. Thanks for the help.

Edit: just installed the PandemicXSIAddonFixed from the stickied post, but still doesn't change anything in the file menu, just a new cmd that opens once in the xsi that someone up with a microsoft server error and closes.

1. the tutorial explains exactly what you have to do (note the instructions on the images)
2. you can export models to msh via repsharpshooters "mshex" which can be doenloaded in the assets section, you can find a tutorial for it on the downloadpage and there are countless topics over here discussing the same thing

What do you mean by saying that the tutorial says exactly what to do? On the second picture it says 2. Create your terrain cutter

What does that mean? Do I cut a whole in my object? Create a box and name it terraincutter? That's what I'm confused about.

I downloaded http://www.gametoast.com/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=57

and I installed, and when I try to export the obj that I converted from a hoth asset, it came up with an error at the bottom saying line 81 Msh exporter script error...

Edit: Obj.ExportScene ActiveProject, ActiveProject.ActiveScene

That's line 81

A terraincutter in xsi terms is an additional piece of geometry to your main modelmesh. Make it in the rough shape of the hole you want to cut into the terrain to allow your main model "access" through the terrain. It will have terraincutter as a name.
As for exporting it and the problems you are having only XSI foundation 5.11 and lower can use the pandemic exporter. You choices for export therefore are as DarthD.U.C.K. mentioned is Rep's mshex program or get one of the 30 day trial versions shown at the top of the XSI forum and use the pandemic exporter.

Do terrain cutters work in Blender? or do they need to be converted into XSI and added?
also, why are terrain cutters always big squares? wouldn't it be better to make them more perfectly outline with the object?

think of the performance, you dont need a 100-poly terraincutter when you can use a box instead

FragMe! made some terraincutters for download, you don't have to make them yourself. I think they're at Filefront.
