Abregado-Rae: Venezia

Hello there Gametoast, it's been a long time since I've so much as visited, but I'm back now with a map I have worked on since around February I think. I'll let the pictures do the describing:
A bit of a sidenote, the pictures are quite old, the map has been filled with many more props since I took those, they still effectively convey the map and it's atmosphere. Also the map was originally going to be with a different color scheme changed from beige to white and green to red, however I was unable to reskin it in a time effective manner so I didn't bother, if someone has or would reskin the buildings that would be very useful.
This map will include the same setup as in my previous maps, stock sides in conquest and my sides in a conquest. I may just not add my sides and instead add a Capture the flag mode I'm not sure which I want to do, both will only take a few minutes whichever I decide. I may release within a week but if not in that timeframe it could be expected 3 weeks afterwards to be released.
Beta testers wanted (0 spots remaining):

Fiodis

Feedback appreciated.

The atmosphere looks very nice.

It looks like some props aren't quite aligned properly, though (4th picture down, bottom-left corner).

It's that or Z-fighting, that particular prop is quite temperamental. The real problem is that it was created in ZE to be completely flat and generally made unuseful and difficult to use. I've done the best I can with it's limitations and can't get it any better.

Added to the beta list, and that would be very useful if you could, thanks.
Thanks for the positive comments guys.

Wow, I would totally love to beta test this the only thing is that BF2 isn't available for Mac users.
Anyway, awesome looking map as always. I say to use the second or last screen for the loadscreen. Really well done!

You
can get it better; if you have a problem you can always use the modding forum to ask for help. In this case, the solution is to set them at the exact same place and then offset them by a fraction of a unit manually by opening up the .wld (or .lyr) file in a text editor.

I've tried that too, I've found that at a certain point the small fraction becomes so negligible that the game or ZE rounds it up or down making any work on that useless, this was the smallest fraction I could get (plus therse also other issues to do with those barriers and the low poly terrain, all are a huge hassle and many would require a complete shift of the map and I've found it really unimportant unless you are looking for it you won't really find it). Again this could all just be my computer acting up, I get all kinds of weird graphical errors and the such on each and every game my computer is over 4 years old now and it hasn't aged well.
And thanks again for the positive comments, yes Venice was the inspiration for the map (quite obviously I'd think too).

Was the Venice inspiration inspired by Assassin's Creed? Because quite honestly, that game pretty much made me fall in love with Renaissance Italy.
Anyway, there's not much to say other that reiterating how fantastic it looks. So this is more of a "I'm posting in this WIP so the icon next to the topic changes so I remember to follow this WIP."

Thank you, and partially, I had decided to make this map long before I had that game but a while into making the map I realized the white and red colorscheme that was present in the Assasins Creed 2 version of Venice was exactly how I would want this map to look I decided on that (and unsuccessfully tried implementing it)
Anakin wrote:WOW great pics it looks really good. can you add some ships??

There's no way I could add ships into this, the map is very small confined and a lot of it is invisible from the air. Besides in my opinion I think the ships in this game put on a land map can only ruin the gameplay, and ruin the immersion as you can always easily go outside of the map's area and see background portions of the city that aren't meant to be seen from most angles.
Thank you everyone for the positive comments, and the beta list has been updated. (Nova just wanted to confirm before I added you, you can or can't beta? Whichever is fine I don't care too much either way)

Again same story for that. Although really the reason I hadn't thought of that is it's impossible to make boats in bf2 that aren't capable of land travel (AKA they would end up floating on terrain too).

I think someone figured out a way to restrict them to water. I had some back-and-forth PMs with him months ago about things like this.
Ah yes, it was Astute. I'm not sure if he's still active.
'Course, you could always make ZE-animated turrets shaped like gondolas. But I'd agree that this map doesn't seem like it needs vehicles or water travel.

yes i mean boats.
what about vehicles only moving on water. you can enter with "E" like a vehicle star ship or canon.

My simple answer is it's deficient to gameplay and immersion. Although if I had a working gondola model I would be happy to add it in to a second mode, I too think it would be pretty neat to have that, however I don't have a gondola model and I don't have a working one (I am unable to model I can't make these things).
