Movie playback static

i am trying to play a dvd on my computer, but when i play it, there is a ton of static in the speakers. and it does this for every dvd i put in. also, none of the dvds have static on the tv. any ideas? plz help, tnx

It's probably your speakers, try some headphones or another pair and see if it works. You plug your speakers and headphones into the green circular port on the back of your PC

It also might be the sound chip/card. If you have integrated sound I wouldn't be surprised if that's it. Try it with other speakers/headphones first though, like already suggested.
And does it do this for everything or just DVDs?

it does this for just dvds. (all other sound on my com works fine) also, when the dvd runs into the selection screen (you know, play, chapter title etc.) i can see static on the picture like green wavy lines. but then after that, the picture is fine, and the sound just has a lot of static. also, i tried headphones and same deal.
also once or twice it had normal sound for like a few seconds but then went away. this is a really weird problem

Have you tried using another program to play DVDs?
VLC is a good one.
