Pepperland: Psychedelia

Version: 2.0

By: [SBF]DannBoeing

"Once upon a time.....or maybe twice......there was an unearthly paradise......called.......Pepperland......"

Map Description:
Colors and Music surround you as you fly and swirl around the psychedelic eden known as Pepperland. Inspired by the 1968 Beatles movie, Yellow Submarine, I've created a map to celebrate the music, the ideals, and the people of the late 1960's so-called "Hippy" era. The map is filled with many many references to icons of the 1960's, song lyrics, and the like.

The Landscape:
I've tried to make the landscape as full and diverse as possible. It includes 4 major areas that I will mention in this readme. The first is the surrealistic Strawberry Fields, inspired by the 1967 Beatles song, located in the lower left portion of the map. It is a large plain of sunflowers and strawberries that stretch across a quarter of the map, opening up on to a lake and waterfall of psychedelic liquid. The second area I will mention is the Flowerpower Palace, located in the lower right corner of the map. Decorated with flowers, sitting on top of the Palace is the famed Yellow Submarine, which is flyable with several player seats, each with humorous and powerful weapons. The third area I will mention is "Downtown" Pepperland located in the top right portion of the map. I've tried to make this look sort of like a Psychedelicized London. All entrances into town are gated with extravagant arches much like the ones from naboo (considering they are reskins). Also included in town is a Temple holding the "Fountain of Youth" which will restore your health if you sit in it. The next area is the Blue Meanie Fortress. It is two floors, the bottom one containing a war room, where you can make up your devilish plans to take over Pepperland and A-blue-terate everybody. On top of the fortress is the Mighty Flying Rock, which shoots a massive onslaught of boulders upon Poor Unsuspecting Pepperland. Also included is the redecorated secret area, that you probably shouldn't have too much trouble finding.

The Modes:

There are now 4 modes:

The Trip (Con):
This is basically conquest, it's reinforcement based, but cps are not capturable. The battle takes place across the whole map. This is includes all the basic psychedelicized units. The visual effects are pretty stable for this map, and usually last the whole round, however, AI count is set to default.

----CW - The Cosmic Brotherhood Vs the Psychobots
----GCW - The Hippies vs The Police

The Battle of Pepperland (Eli):
This is more like conquest, it is both reinforcment based and the cps are capturable. The battle starts out from both the Flowerpower Palace and the Blue Meanie fortress, and charging into town, capturing neutral cps. GCW more or less represents the battle that took place in the Yellow Submarine movie. CW is a mosh-posh of special units and heroes from all modes. Although the main battle doesn't take place in strawberry fields, a battle of a completely different kind is taking place there, so watch out if you go wandering over there.

----CW - The Forces of Good Vs The Forces of Evil
----GCW - The Beatles (as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) Vs The Blue Meanies

The Big Trip (XL):
This is the same as conquest, but with hundreds of units across the battlefield. So gameplay should be much more interesting, however, visual effects will probably start disappearing half-way through the round. Teams are the same as conquest.

Strawberry Fields Forever (Hunt):
This is the most psychedelic of all the modes. It takes place solely in Strawberry Fields. CW takes place in the upper portion of Strawberry Fields, and GCW takes occurs in the lower portion. There are only three cps for this mode, 2 base cps, and a central neutral cp. What you try to do is capture and defend the neutral cp all you can, and if you push back the enemy enough, you can capture their base. Standing by the center cp while defending it or capturing it, gains you health. Which you'll need as things get pretty crazy by the center cp.

----CW - The Gnomes Vs The Jabberwocks
----GCW - The Flower People Vs The Butterflies

The Music:
I consider the music to be a big part of the map. Literally, it takes up about 200MB. It includes around an hour of psychedelic rock and iconic 60's pop songs, to give the map its real flavor. After listening to it for a while, and if you really don't like the music (which some people won't, everyone has different tastes), or if you really need to save up some space, you can go into addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/Sound and delete lsd.lvl. However, I would highly recommend giving some of it a listen beforehand, as I simply love the music. And if you like, by all means turn up the volume. Here's what the soundtrack includes (songs play at random so this is no particular order. Those marked with [Excerpt] is only a part song, or its mixed in with another song):
Hidden/Spoiler:
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles (Revolver, 1966)
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Beatles (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, 1967)

Updates from the Previous Version:
Let me put it this way, it really is nothing like the first version. Everything at some point in the process of the update, has been moved, improved, annhiliated, or rebuilt. Some of the units and teams are sort of the same idea, but they have changed pretty drastically. One in change includes removing flying ability for some units. This is to try to keep the battle pretty grounded, since that's the only way AI know how to fight (they arn't programmed to think in three dimensions, they only know forwards, backwards, left, and right, not up and down). While the lack of real gameplay in the first version was a serious issue, that has been solved. Another major change is redoing all of the textures on the map, incorporating bits and pieces of psychedelic art that I've gathered and created, to make the map much more artistic looking and much less "blah" looking like the last version.

Suggestions Regarding Graphics Settings
This map is extremely detailed, so you may want to monkey with your graphical settings if you experience lag in-game. By lowering View Distance and LOD distance, you will definitely reduce the lag, however, lowering these will reduce how far you are able to see, and how far away you can see foliage, like flowers and strawberries. So if your computer is capable, I would recommend putting your graphics on the highest settings for the most colorful experience (you can keep lighting on medium if you wish, since the high setting for that is a little funky).

Bugs/Issues
I'll start by saying that this map has really been pushed to the limit of what this game can handle. So many may not be able to get it working online. All modes and eras work for me, but I would keep AI off for conquest and eli. Also, PLEASE TAKE NOTE, that if your computer has less than 700MB of RAM, you may not be able to get the map functioning, as it requires a lot of memory. Even if your computer has around 700MB of RAM, you may experiance occasional crashing or freezing when switching from game session to game session. In terms of the map, there are bound to be a few glitches here and there with planning and objects and what not, but i've tried my best to eliminate all of them.

A Note from Me:
Of course being a psychedelic 60s map, there is obviously lots of references to psychedelic drugs. I personally do not support illegally abusing drugs. It's stupid and bad for your health, and you've probably already heard that before. I'm merely trying to portray comic and blatant exaggerations of the "psychedelic experience." This map in no way is trying to portray what taking drugs is really like, and I can tell you that taking drugs is much less pleasant than what you would experience in this map.

On another note, I know some of you arn't into my super psychedelic crazy style of mapping. Honestly that's fine, if you don't like my maps, you don't have to download them. But I want to make clear the amount of effort I put into this one. I've never put this much effort or work into anything like this outside of school. I've basically spent a total of *8 months* working on the update for this map, and that does not include all the work I put into the first version. So I've really put my all into this one, as it is *probably* going to be my last update or map for Star Wars Battlefront II. I've tried to make it as detailed and artistic as possible. And I really hope you enjoy it, I sure do.

Install Instructions:
If you have any previous versions of this map remove the old LSD from addon *before install*

Then Simply run the installer and install the map to the *\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon\PPR" directory. Installation should take a few minutes. The default directory is C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon\PPR.

Make sure you know where your Star Wars Battlefront II Folder is and that you have enough space (at least 725MB) on your computer before you install. Once installed, the map should appear on the instant action and multiplayer game menus.

To uninstall the map, simply remove the PPR folder from addon.

I´ve got another Problem:

I can´t find the map! I installed it correctly, but when I open the single-player menu it won´t show up... Between "PGM" and "PVP" there is nothing -.- are there some special rules which I have to look at? I deleted the previous 1.0 version, but I can´t find the "PPR" thing in my BF II Game-Menu...
But it is in the "addon" ordner -.-

Lol, I just realized that this was a 750MB download! It only took my CPU like 5mins, maybe not even that long to download. This is as big as the Conversion Pack itself! Luckily I have a lot of room!

For everyone who could not get it working, please tell me how much RAM you have, and what processor you have. Also, if it does not work, I would suggest turning off all other programs to save processor memory.

And it btw, it's not a 725MB download, that's just how much space it takes up when it's installed. It's a 352MB download.

Make sure the following exist:

Code: Select all

addon/PPR/addme.script (3.33MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/core.lvl (2.61MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/mission.lvl (131KB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/ingame.lvl (565KB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/Load/common.lvl (3.33MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/PPR/PPR.lvl (166MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/all.lvl (42.7MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/imp.lvl (29.8MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/rep.lvl (50.1MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/cis.lvl (36.7MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/lsd.lvl (188MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE/des.lvl (4.65MB)
addon/PPR/data/_LVL_PC/Sound/lsd.lvl (199MB)
If you are missing any of these, or if they have one 1kb in size, then it didn't install properly. If you have vista, I would suggest installing to desktop/PPR first, and then moving it into addon.
