New sound lvls building, but no sounds are ingame

I have to admit, this is my Achilles heel. I suck at sounds. So here's where I'm at.

Basically I got no sounds in-game but no BFront2.log errors. The lvl builds, I have it referenced correctly in the lua, the game finds it -- just no sound.




NOTE: -- I appreciate the 'well wisher' kind of answers, but if you don't know, please don't throw out a random guess. I'm very busy these next few weeks and I'd rather you didn't post at all unless you have a really good idea of where the error is or where to start looking.

EDIT: Nope, as far as I see everything else is correct. I compared the files with my working ones and everything, except that missing part I mentioned above, is technically the same. :)

Well I'm assuming Aman/Pinguin saved me the time of check every bitty detail. Hopefully this isn't a "well-wisher" answer, but it's hard to know EXACTLY what is wrong with it without actually being on your computer. I too had many many problems with the sounds. I've had this sort of error, so I'll list some possible scenarios that I encountered and why it went wrong:
  • I was not able to ever build a complete sound.lvl. I always had to only include any new sounds, and munge that into another sound.lvl. Then, in the LUA, I had to "leech" off of another sound.lvl by saying: readfile sound/yavcw.lvl then readfile baacw.lvl underneath that. It had to be an ammendment not a replacement. Not sure if that's the issue (or if it even was just a local issue to me). It's what I had to do to get battle arena (baa) to work
  • I'm assuming by the lvls building that they have the contents of the sounds in them. If the filesize seems reasonable for including all the sound files for a level, you could even go further to open it in a hex editor to see what's there (although you probably won't gain much from doing that).
  • If the lvl is built, and it include sound effects, or at least configs for them (you can see via hex editor), the next step is to check the lua line. I know you probably did it right, but 1 digit makes everything fail...

Also, are there any bf2log errors of importance?

Basically what I do is follow the whole process from start to end, from the way bottom (the internals and source of the sound files) all the way to it's lua implementation, checking for errors. However, sometimes the source files can be completely correct and correctly implemented, but an error occurs during runtime, hopefully the bf2 log would catch it, if not, I have no idea.

I've ran it with it there and with it not. The file built both times, but not sounds were in-game. I'm working with psych0fred on the issue. I think it goes a lot deeper than one line in a batch file.

There is that side menu with the option of Sound Only. I've had to use that at times in order for shipped sounds to munge correctly. After munging with sound only, I think you have to munge normally if you have edited anything else. I personally cant remember 100%, its been a long time.

Other than that, there seems to be nothing wrong with your files. Even I have trouble working with shipped sounds.
