I don't want to be out of place, so if a bigwig was going to post this here somewhere, I'm sorry. But over at SWBFFiles, there's a vote just started for the December mapping contest. Figured people should know about it ASAP, so that we can get as many people interested as soon as possible.
Go cast your vote!

This year, I will come in the top three!..(in my dreams...) I'm voting for Caves!

I think I'd go for the "beach" setting. Though I also like a canyon setting.
My eye immediatly went out for urban. But they've captured that one already.
EDIT:
I went for caves now.

I'd vote for forests/swamps to have a better "Christmas feeling" to the maps. Good luck to all who enter!

I'd quite like to see what "cave" comes up with.
While caves are pretty easy to make, I'd be happy to make/modify a bunch of easy to stick together caves as assets.
Islands probably isn't a good idea because of annoying water related crashes, limiting you to a pretty small map (Anyone who's played Kadrala: Islands - without heavy fog/lower than normal rez water squares that's basically the limit).
But beach or even lake could be cool and you'd probably dodge the water bullet.
While forest/swamp sound good, think they'll be harder to pick apart than the others.

I won't be able to enter my Antar Four, Dee'ja Peak, or upcoming map because they're urban. I voted for cliffs, so maybe I can just do Korriban for an entry :p
I wouldn't mind making a cave map, though. That could be fun.

Islands. There is that issue Sky mentioned, but I think it'd be interesting, to promote small, compact maps and see what comes up. We don't have enough good, small maps, IMO.
Of course, as with the PotD there, I seem unable to vote.

You wouldn't be able to enter any of them, since you've already started/finished them.

WHat about Dystopian themed maps? (A la Mad Max.)

There are only a handful of cavern maps out there; if my memory serves me correctly, there are approximately a million forest maps floating around.
Caves would definitely be interesting, but if I were to enter I'd probably choose the canyon theme because it's just what I'm in the mood to make right now.

I... can't vote. I was going for cave but I can't add my comment to the poll, odd.

Voting is only possible if you are the fisrt one to vote.
I voted for Beach/Island, because I really like tropical settings.

Probably you are not logged in?

I truly don't think Nihilllo hadn't noticed the fact that you can't vote the "normal" way. He probably is saying that he can't vote (in the way it's asked in the poll), because he can't post a comment.

Okok, point for you. I aslo don't think Nihillo wouldn't notice if he isn't online.

I managed to vote after logging off then logging in again, problem solved.
So, anyway, caves: there are very few "underground" (in the sense that they are not really underground) maps for this game, and as far as my knowledge of maps goes, they are all very interesting; admittedly some are not as much fun as others, but still, I think there is a lot of creative things that can be done with "just a bunch of rocks". I had some ideas for a fungus-infested cave, using Felucian assets, but I really suck at making maps for Battlefront II, so I guess I will have to sit here and hope someone else realizes the potential of a Felucian cave
*hint*.
I also hope, in the case that the "cave" theme wins, that we don't get too many maps composed of simple-minded copy-pastes of the same Hoth tunnels over and over, without any distinguishing features or without any additions and variations at all. But, as always, I'm sure there will be at least one map with such... qualities.

What about interior maps in general? There's a real short supply of interior maps on filefront.
