I saw this game when it came out - never got it though. Supposedly it was LOTR Battlefront or something. I heard it could have been a lot better. Anyone here ever played it?

I've never played it either, although I've heard that it's a LotR Battlefront but much much worse.

I heard that too - and it doesn't have a healthy modding community, which is always a minus.

I bought it when it first came out. Played it for three or four days, then had to uninstall it for space. I've never had the urge to reinstall it. I think that adequately sums up what I think of the game.

But I'd say watch a couple gameplay videos of it anyways, because you obviously aren't me and may have a different opinion. Rent it or borrow it first if at all possible if you are considering giving it a try.

Some People around here liked it,you can read it in the old LotR Topic, for me it phailed complete.
Check out some Youtube Gameplay Vids and you will see how  it is.
I loved the Movies but when LotR-C came out.(some years to late)I really hoped it would be good Game but it wasnt.I lost interest after 1-2 Hours.
The complete Lord of the Rings Franchise is totaly sucked out.

Good graphics and the game-play is much like Battlefront. Unfortunately it got bad reviews which drove people away and limited the online players. I still see near full servers up, and they are plenty fun to play.

EA specifically made it so that it's exceedingly hard to hex edit effectively and no mod tools were ever released. Where is there room for a modding community?

I got the game the day it came out too. At first it was cool, playing all the different characters and places and stuff but then I got bored of it and the gameplay wasn't that great. Sadly, I had to uninstall it due to lack of space in my hard drive, I think the game is like 7GB to install.

I think, like BF2, it could have been done a lot better if Pandemic (yes, Pandemic) gave more time into it.

I downloaded the demo for my 360 and got bored with it before I even finished the level. It was way disappointing. On the other hand some of the features, like being able to chain combos as a swordsman, would have been awesome for SWBF2.

Really, after about a month the only rewarding thing was the announcer. "USE YOUR CROWD BREAKER ATTACK TO TURN THE TIDE OF THE BATTLE!" and "HE WAS A NASTY ONE!" are some of my favorite video game lines due to how bad they were. :P

Sound cheesy.
I was getting all excited for the release, then read about how bad it was.
In my opinion, there is only 1 good LOTR game for pc - Return of the King. I love that game.

Your first two sentences exactly sum up my thoughts on the game... I was literally to the point of making sure I had the money to buy it, hoping to go to the store the next day when it came out... Then I read a review. On the plus side, with that out of the way, I ended up getting another game which ended up being my favorite RPG of all time (That I have played, which doesn't say much... If Assassin's Creed counts, which I have only seen and not played, then that's probably my favorite.)

Yeah - used to play it a ton with my brother, when it was the only video game I owned (in both ways). Then I got Battlefront, and have barely played ROTK since. Still a great game though.

Like most, I was excited for this game...until I read the reviews and saw the final product. There were little variations to characters and their attacks and such that I didn't like (The swordsman's flaming sword attacks for example.)

I also thought there would be more units on-screen at once, so it was a little disappointing.

I got the game recently, but all of the computers I tried it on it wouldn't work. I finally installed it, and played some, and it was fun for the little time I played it. (I've only played the first four campaign levels)I think that it could have been a lot better, especially if it was modable. All of the heroes are exactly the same as the normal units. (For example, Aragorn's attacks where the exact same as the Swards Man, just colored green. Same applies to Gandolf, etc. ) Some of the game play is fun, but it does sometimes gets bogged down. You have three main types of units, the grunts (one hit kills) regular units (that are 5-7 times more powerful that grunts) and other heroes (same defense and attack as you). As you can tell playing against an army of grunts is one of those, kill-everything-in-sight-with-a-special-attack sorta' thing. Then you get a normal unit or three in the mob, and it sorta throws off your killing groove. They are a lot harder to kill.
