XSI Tools

Post by sharkmon7 »

After reading the XSI thread: http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... =36&t=5702
I wanted to double-check that Crosswalk is what I want to use to export models to a .msh file.

If I am wrong, could you please lead my noobish skills to the correct software? Thanks again!

Crosswalk is what you use to export your scene from the free XSI Mod Tool as .xsi filetype, but someone with the full(paid) version of XSI will have to import your scene then export it to msh for you.

Only the full(paid) versions of XSI can export models to msh.
These are the versions of XSI that can export models to msh:
Foundation 4.x - 5.x $495
Essentials 4.x - 5.x $2995
Advanced 4.x - 5.x $4995

However, there is a 30 day trial of Foundation 5.11 that you can download and install, the Pandemic xsiaddon works with the 30 day trial and is fully functional, it will allow you to export your models to msh for 30 days.

Click on this link:
http://www.softimage.com/downloads/
then scroll further down the page until you see:
Previous Versions
then click on:
Downloads >>
located directly under it.
Once you've reached the next page click on the drop-down list and select:
OLDER VERSIONS
Then scroll down the list until you get to:
SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.5.11 Foundation for 32-bit Windows 30 days trial
Then download and install(temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus before installing)

Launch the XSI Foundation 5.11 30 day trial then drag n drop the xsiaddon into any viewport to install it.

Now you're ready to export your models to msh, for helpful info on exporting and setup please read the art_guide.doc that is included in the BF2 Modtool documentation.

You can also search these forums for the answers to many questions that you may have in the future, because most have already been covered.

I hope this helps.

Ok, that makes sense. I think I have the full version in my class. I'm in highschool and we're in a class that has spent thousands of dollars into software, inlcuding XSI, so we can work with computers and create projects. I'm working with Autodesk Maya, so what I have to do is export my Maya model to XSI, then export the .xsi to a .msh, correct?

Correct, though you should make sure it's setup correct for BF2, so with nulls etc, but you'll learn about that ;)

Ahh, wait what? Haha, I've finished a model and it's completely textured. The object is a polygon. Is that bad? :|

BF2_Modtools/documentation/art_guide.doc

Tells you everything you need to know to set it up for Battlefront 2
But do make sure you read all of it as there are some pretty important parts well-hidden within that massive wall of text :D

A little bit of help when your done importing into XSI...

First make sure you have a null primitive and rename it to dummyroot

then set up your hierarchy like this picture:
Image
To get to the explorer view click 8 on the keyboard.

Middle the dummyroot

Then go to file>pandemix tools>export and look at this pic so you know what to tick and what not:

Sweet. Yea, I went to school today and, sadly, we have version 6.5 of XSI. May I give it to someone who has the correct version, like wazmol? It makes things a lot simpler for me. I can give the Maya file in .obj format, or would you prefer something else? And I'm glad you included pictures in that mini-guide, because if you were to just tell me via text only, I'd be so confused. I'm very visual, as you can see. :) Thanks a lot guys, your making this a lot easier than it could be.

Yeah, there are a few of us that export our model, i know now that manderek is almost on to it aswell.

We will preferably need the files in .xsi or .obj and we need the textures, i for one am not gonna be someone who adds nulls and what ever, so just props will do okay, and i wont resize them, if thats fine by you just send me them or add me on xfire (wazmol69) and we'll talk.

Added. Thanks again, all of you. Hopefully I can get by with everything, and of course, you'll be able to see my work before its completed. :D

EDIT: Found it! Thanks Ace. But, I'm clicking on the XSI Foundation 5.11 30 day free trial, and it takes me to a separate tab and will not let me download. Nothing comes up and shows me I can save the file to my computer. Solution? Thanks.
