Abraxas Platform: Pirate Space Assault (Plus Assets!)

All screenshots and pertinent details to this map can be found in the WIP topic here.

A couple things to keep in mind:

-I wanted to keep this map a close-in fight, and because of the limitations of map boundaries (they can only be circular), I used damageregions as map boundaries. Pay attention! The damageregions are in some places close to the action, and you'll have only a short time to turn around before your ship will explode.

-I localized "additions" to all the starting tips (all 55 of them, lol). Although I did this just for fun, some of the tips are very pertinent to this level, so read them.

-Let me know what you think of the space station! I meant this map really to be just a showcase for the ships, but it turned out that I liked the space station a lot. I almost would've liked to completely vegetate the inside, like I did in the small arboretum. Your input please. :)

-I haven't bug-checked this for MP, so no guarantees there.

-CTF is restricted to Imp ships only. Both sides have TIEs, simply because I determined that there's some special part to the mesh of the shipped vehicles that lets them pick up flags, and I didn't know how to add this mesh.

-Play around with classes! I know a lot of us like to stick to one class in normal space maps, but this is not a normal space map. Each class has real strengths worthy of exploring.

-Have fun! If you have any detailed questions about the map, feel free to PM me.

It doesn't work for me, its a rar file, how do I get rar files to work?
Anyway it looks cool.

unpack RAR files

You have to unRAR it, kind of like unzipping, except it has a .rar file extension, you can use Winrar or 7-zip to unRAR the archive to extract the contents.

Well, when I run it I see that trooper and then I get a crash.

Chris, try adjusting your graphical settings, it might have something to do with that.

And everyone else, maybe do some exploring the space station. There's at least one... interesting thing to find.

You mean, settings to high? Cause it can't get higher so it's not to low.

He means lower your settings. 75% of time BFII can't handle it's own high settings

Shields up! Can the pirate fighters have some shields please? Its no fun launching only to get ripped apart as you struggle to control your fighter's odd tendency to drift left or right and then get ripped apart after 5 seconds.

Once the turrets all died, the ATR was really fun. Deploayables were an interesting choice.

Also, why not add an ion cannon sound?

A few tips:

Tis' true... it's not easy to stay alive. However, it's problematic that in BF2 space battles, we've become accustomed to traveling straight towards the enemy's capital ship while taking next-to-zero damage. Well, that won't, pardon the pun, "fly" here.

Stay low. Both the platform and its asteroid cannons, the Star Destroyer, and the frigates from both sides exist on a plane of sorts. Not sure why SW battles work that way, but they do. If you duck below the plane of battle, you can give yourself a respite from damage.

Knock out the frigates quickly. Especially when you're playing as a pirate, the opposing team's frigates are critical to their success. Only the Imperial Indomitable-class frigate is part of your assault goal, but if you knock out both it and the Victory, you gain a significant advantage.

Actually kill the other team's turrets. Sure, you can be lazy and knock out the Autodefense mainframe, but it'll get repaired quickly. Kill the turrets and they're good and gone.

Don't be afraid to fly full speed... even boost when fighting sometimes! :o Another part of BF2 flying I'm not a fan of is that you can fly around at your minimum speed and not get hit. "Snubfighters are too fast for those turrets to track!" Well, not when you're laying on the brakes, soldier. The only unit that's worth really slowing down to fight is the assault transport, which can virtually be turned into a floating turret.

Finally, I would advise all those pilots who just feel overwhelmed to search the pirate base. I'm almost positive that there's something in there that will point you in the right direction.

Would it be the Auto-Victory weapon known as "A very big gun"?

Lol. No, it's a little less overt than that. Let's just call it a very special hint.

You mean SWBF 2 space battles. Thats because no one, including pandemic, has bothered to make a working upside down anti-fighter auto turret. THe indor security turrets prove that its possible, but all (both) my attempts failed.

Also, one more tip, slow down to a stop while laying mine - and btw, it seems to impossible to deploy class A's properly in SP because you need to stop to properly lay, and you can't while in a turret. Haven't played MP yet.

P.S. It turns out that the map does kick Diet Dr. Pepper. I was rusty.
