Marines drop from gunship (Khimera)

I play the Khimera map from YankFan1950 a lot - it's one of my favourites. There's one neat feature about it that I noticed, and would like to implement in a map that I'm working on (cough-cato neimoidia bridge cities-cough). I've noticed that the CIS gunship actually drops Droid Marines in mid-air. How would I go about doing this?

WOW :!: :!: I am very surprised that someone even noticed that. It is in all my lvls that have a gunship that acts as a cp. It is not a scrpting or (something totally impossible). It's a helpfull glitch in the game that the AI spawn at the mobile cp as it is flying so the spawn and it looks like they are dropping them but the gunship doesn't lose any crew. I was very helpful in Khimera but i don't think it will do you any good in Cato Nemodia because the ships will be flying high above the ground.

its not the odf i didn't edit it for khimera it's just that the gunship is a mobile cp and there is a glitch in sbf2 that is not in sbf1

Expalins alot... but that's just not enough.
Maybe you did something different from the rest of us?
post the part in your .lua or whatever you've used so future modders easily aloso can make good mobile CP's

I put in my .lua for the ReadData file... rep "rep_fly_gunship_sc"
I also put in the line SetMemoryPoolSize("CommandFlyer", 2) like I was adding an ATTE also the vehicle spawn was just like an ATTE or ATAT vehicle spawn

If you watch carefully, this happens in the stock maps as well. I've seen it quite a bit in MP servers not using modmaps, though it is rare enough to be barely noticeable. So, it can't be something special about Yankfan1950's gunship or map. If anything, it has to be something the devs did, and chances are it's something hardcoded, since it's a mobile CP with it's own spawn nodes outside the vehicle. Just because human players can't spawn from the flying ship doesn't necessarily mean that the AI can't spawn mid-flight. Remember human players are restricted from selecting the gunship as a CP when it's airborne, which is quite different from actually setting the ship so nothing can spawn during flight.

I just use it to my advantage so it doesn't bother me that much and if you can't stand it use the other gunship (non cp) "rep_fly_gunship"

It occured to me that it might just depend on where the ship can land. If you look carefully, in the shipped space maps, sometimes an AI will spawn as the command flyer takes off. Since there are no defined landing regions in Khimera, technically it can land anywhere so what I conclude is that AI can spawn midflight if the ship is capable of landing there. Just a theory.
Try adding landing regions to your map and see if they still do it YankFan.
And MNoodles is right, you can't click on the ship on the minimap and thats the only reason you can't spawn there. AI don't have to click a minimap so they can spawn there anyway.

I haven't been on in a while, so I wasn't following the thread. Anyway, I wonder - why is it only marines that drop? I've never actually seen any other units drop from a flying gunship. And I don't need the player to spawn mid-air - it's neat to have a bunch of troops "parachuting" from your gunship. Very realistic.
I think Trainmaster's right. It sounds correct.
BTW Rhen Var Droid Factory's great! Amazing job with ZeroEditor, I like it!

This happens always. Unlike the player, ai can spawn from mobile cp's anywhere. If you just use the default space gunship you should get this effect. And if you dont believe me go play instant action and follow a gunship around. You will see it occasionally 'drop' troops out into space.

Wow, really? I've never seen it before. That's weird - I guess that's why there's no space conquest - every AI troop would die. Still, I don't get why it only drops marines.

it doesn't drop marines it just looks like that in Khimera because the skins are all the same

I've never seen it drop SBDs, magnas or droidekas. Weird.

I was playing this map to see the marines fall. I didn't quite understand where or when they did but when I was playing a Clone trooper fell from the sky and when I was flying the Droid Gunship a marine and SBD fell out
