WIP: Bith model

Been posting some old pics of this model in the showcase topic; but now, since the model is completed, I think this one deserves its own topic.

Okay, what do we have here? A bith, simply. If you can't tell what a Bith is, it is one of those cool looking aliens you can see in the Cantina in Episode IV (and many other places actually). Ever since I started out with modelling in 2006, I've always wanted to make character models for the Battlefront series, and some hours ago I realized the time was right. As you might understand now, this is my first proper go at modelling this kind of stuff. As mentioned in the Showcase thread, I could not find good reference pictures for all the angles, so it did not turn out 100% accurate. However, I don't think it's that important - Who ever said that Biths can't look a bit different from eachother? Just look at us humans, do we look all the same? :music:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Working time: About 3 hours
Polygons: 1498 (Will cut away some later on)

I have some ideas for the texture and some reskins. First of all, there will be this black clothed version you see in the movie, but I am also thinking about adding a soldier looking reskin, so it can easily blend within a rebel side. If that is what'll happen, I will probably add a white skin so it could work in a Hoth/Rhen Var map as well.

I dont think the mouth resembled a beak. Your mouth kind of looks like a beak. I would round the bottom, and add like a line indent for the mouth.

Other than that, it would be awesome for the dynamic map, playing music in the Cantina like Misty Mountain Hop. :P

As always, I like to keep it simple. I did rotoscope the front with a cheese doodely good picture, and it does look pretty good if you compare them. I will leave it the rest to the texture.

Updates! :cantina:

Well, I fixed the model so it fits games' character skeleton. It doesn't look as good as the old model. That is a drawback - sure - but I've learned something. Always make your model on the skeleton so you can see it works! Learning new stuff was my intention from the very beginning, so by doing this mistake I've gained some experience. Beyond that, I didn't change anything. I do see your point concerning the face, but I don't think it's all too necessary. We'll see if my model works when the texture is finished.

I managed to cut away some polygons, so the number ended up being 1289. Currently, I am UVing and listening to Gamma Ray. Oh, life sure is beautiful! :music:

You can actually assign a sound to an explosion and an explosion to almost any kind of weapon - you could theoretically give him 8 weapons and 8 different notes, let him play actual music. :P

Does anyone know if there is a UV wrapper that works together with the XSI 6.0 Mod Tool? The Bith's UV is plain wierd, I really need something that does the hard work. And hey, if you help me, I will be able to make more characters, perhaps for that Dynamic map... :maulsaber:

You may find you amy have to add some polys, on the arms and shoulders and possibly legs in order to make them move properly.
Have a look at the sitting Rep soldier in the showcase topic and you will see what I mean.

Looks good though and I like Rep's idea about playing a tune.

LOL! You'll need to be a mousewheel expert with a highly trained middlefinger for that though. But that'd be funny :D Yet annoying I'd imagine
