how do i define where the cockpit is? and how do i know where the camera is?

I was also curious about this. I would try looking in the odf file as a reference to hardpoints/camera angles. The camera angle in my vehicle that I made in XSI is on the side of the vehicle for some reason.

Thats cause your vehicle should face along the Z-axis.

Vehicle FPMs are a separate mesh. The best way to see how these things should be set up (size, orientation, etc.) would be to import one of the stock vehicle FPMs into XSI and match your custom FPM up with it.
