Updating Graphics Card - New SWBF Effects

I just updated the drivers for my graphics card (Radeon 9800 pro) as they were almost a year old. I joined a server running the docks and started to run through the water. I was suddenly surrounded by FISH and the pillars leading up to the jetties had blue glowing beacons.
All of these effects didn't show up with my old driver version. I wonder what other effects I've been missing?

yes its amazing , sometimes i see screenshots from lowbie cards and im not surprised when those are the same people complaining about the game and graphics glitches lol. Some of the scenery is just amazing, you just got to have the UBER juice to play with it!

I've not noticed any additional effects with the latest nVidia drivers...

maybe you are used to them anyway

i should try and turn antialiasing on in this game, ive left it at 0... does it make much of a difference in this game?

It depends on your game resolution. IF you run at low res settings you will notice the antialiasing function much more then you would do if you run it at high res .
But if your Framerates are still high then i would turn it on at AA 4x or 8x.

Hey Rends,
I was just playing on Tibana Gas Depot and saw a green holographic blaster pistol looking object near a command post. Hadn't picked it up before updating my drivers.

SWBF was surely developed using nVidia's technologies, like "Direct X Shader Model 3", etc... That could explain why I've not noticed any changes : I've already these effects ! On the other hand, maybe nVidia shared its special effects with ATI, to allow this society to include them in its latest video drivers...
What do you think about that ?

My graphics card is now a year old. I got it last April. Should I update?
Also, I'd like to know if this:

and this:

have anything to do with my current graphics card.

Hello EraofDesann,
Upgrading your graphics card drivers is a VERY good idea.
The first image you display reminds me of a picture I saw taken from a PC using an on-board video card. I wonder what graphics card you're using?

I'd say this is probably an ATI... 9700.

I use a ATI Radeon9500 PRO without any problem... -_-'
The startup logo is only a logo, they have to sell to both the card owners.
Dunno if you remember that the first version of Doom3, with the nVidia logo, crashed with Geforce cards every times, and gone good with ATI cards.

This is simply... paradoxical !...

I get probs with my Nvidia Geforce 6800 card, latest drivers and everything but it keeps freezing up in SWBF with an nv4_disp.dll error, something about infinate loop, doing a google it seems to be a common problem which Nvidia are sitting on their arses about, anyone else get this error??

You should probably change settings in your
nVidia driver's configuration...

I've already had a similar problem when I was using an nVidia GeForce 2 MX graphic card... I guess yours is due to your ATI card...
