*Massive facepalm*
I just had to share this. It's ridiculous enough when match-fixing goes on in athletic sports, but now it's happening in video games?

People are people, doesn't matter if they play sports, games, whatever. If it's worth it to one person, for whatever reason, most people can be bought.

Massive facepalm indeed. Mav's right about refs/judges being able to be bought, but it's still pretty bad. It's like buying out a judge during a pro Scrabble league. Sure, it probably happens, but it's still pretty pathetic when it does.Eggman wrote:*Massive facepalm*

Re: Starcraft match-fixing investigation
Why is one any more pathetic than the other? There are lots of cliches, but the most appropriate is "follow the money." If there's enough money to be had people will do increasingly more extreme things to get their hands on it - whether it's sports, video games, Scrabble, knitting, etc. It's more prevalent in sports because there's more money there, but if we were in some bizarre alternate universe (Yu-Gi-Oh! with videogames instead of trading cards) we might be having this discussion in reverse. It's all about the money to be had.Teancum wrote:It's like buying out a judge during a pro Scrabble league. Sure, it probably happens, but it's still pretty pathetic when it does.

Oh fine. I'll be diplomatic and say that it's pathetic whether it's the Super Bowl or the pro Scrabble league. You never let me have any fun.

I'm not surprised. Starcraft is like... South Korea's national sport or something, it's only natural that Starcraft tournaments will be taken more seriously there than anywhere else.
Here in Brazil we have soccer as a national sport (as I am sure most of you are aware of that), and you wouldn't believe the crazy things that some people do... so, yeah, I have a good idea of what goes through their head to rig a Starcraft competition.
