Just a thought: Space to Ground combat
Was wondering if there would be anyway to pull off taking off from the ground, flying through the atmosphere, and out into space to fight, and vise versa. Would be cool to have maps like Naboo strike on the Trade Fed battlestation, or dogfight over Geonosis. I've figured out one possible route, making the space to atmos to ground on a flat map, that way you would always have a transistion. Only problems are space to atmos, how would you make it look believable?

you can't do that 1. the map would be W-A-Y to big and 2. you can't have Starfighters ( shipz that fly) on ground mapz

I actually think that that's pretty 'sad'
I loved dogfights with rocets around me and random soldiers to kill

LOL, wow, ok mabye i should finish up my naboo map and show you. This is the right forum, why post on battlefront 2 modding when i could do it for swbf1.
First off, no the map would not be too big because you could cover it with relative ease in a starfighter.
Second, Yes, you can have ships on ground maps.

Master of Fear, this IS star wars battlefront modding lol. Even if it is intended for bf2 no mod tools are out yet.

If this works well for BF1 maybe I could implement this into my Yuuzhan Vong project for BF2

I'll bet $10 that you will be able to put ships on the ground with the mod tools, with SWBF2 of course

1. don't double post and don't go off topic
2. Post a lot and your rank increases
3. In BFII you can have fighters. Just look at the Rebel Hoth speeders
4. Not a bad idea. But I'm not sure how you would get the ambient affect of the sky getting dark. However, if you started from high up (say like a Yavin temple) then it would decrease the distance. Its worth a shot though.

A great idea and something that I was hoping would be in SWBF2. There are plenty of areas where I can see that there would be problems, mostly concerned with how any great height would effect items on the ground etc.... objects would become invisible or incredibly small res versions needed, you may be able to see the edge and then past the terrain below you, if too much is visible you run into game memory problems, being able to fly through clouds into atmosphere isn't too much of a problem, but I'm sure once again that there are height limits and restrictions as to how far above a map you can go. For me it would need to be a MASSIVE ground map and thus enabling the space part of the to be worth while. Working within the limitations of SWBF1's abilities I think it would end up just becoming a fancy ground map. But it really would be nice to have a map that joined up (for instance) the space combats style of SWBF2 with like a ground map of Kashyyyk or Geonosis. I'd definately like to see the results of any progress on this.

Hmm, ok i've done a bit of research into this. From what i can tell, regular maps are near 600m on the Y axis, if you dropped the terrain down to its lowest limits, you might be able to fit in the atmosphere. As for the atmosphere, i think the best you'll get is to near space limits, unless of course you could alter the persons view somehow.
