Asteroid Prison Facility

Wow, that took awhile to type :P

Here is
ASTEROID PRISON FACILITY


A map I've always wanted to make, and here it is.

Modes: CW Conquest

Story: The CIS have taken a squad of clone troopers and their Jedi leader prisoners. A group of clone troopers led by Ashoka Tano have been sent to rescue the squad before the CIS kills them off.

So this map is a Prison on an Asteroid. It's 4 fambaa shields connected by covered hallways. With a Meteor in the middle. Yes I know it's only one texture at the moment (I'll change it, and it's flat) each shield has 2 cps.

Shield 1: Republic Landing Zone and Defense Bunkers
Shield 2: CIS Landing Platforms and Weapon Storage
Shield 3: Jail Cell
Shield 4: Gas Chamber (Maybe Acklay Cage)

SIDES

The sides have been dramatically changed.
If I say for example Health - High it means the unit has more health then default. Same goes for Speed, Jump, and Energy.

There is another Big thing in this map. It's actually my favorite part. I'll post it when I work out the Tweaks. I guarentee you, you'll love it!

Looks good Egg. Looks like you put a lot of effort into the sides :P

Now for some negative criticism (who doesn't like negative criticism?):

The first thing I noticed is the sky. The sky really makes the map look bad. I know its colorful and all, but no matter what planet you're on, the sky is never going to look like that unless its caused by something within the atmosphere (which doesn't exist here anyways). It looks like you've taken a picture of a supernova or a galaxy and cropped the picture so you only have the middle left. In reality, you're never going to see a supernova or an entire galaxy that close looking like that. It just looks unrealistic. You can make up whatever story you like about it but it makes the map look unprofessional.

The other thing is that the map looks like a giant open plain with a bunch of objects placed on it. The objects are nice (and I like how you arranged the DMI house) but it really seems like there's no depth to the map. I don't know what you would do to fix that but you're going to have to change the layout of the map. Right now it feels like an empty map with a few scattered objects.

Hey, I gave you the idea to make the prefab into a jail! But seriously, this looks great! And actually, I think that having that fence as the cell PERIOD doesn't actually look good.

@ Fluffy - I really couldn't find any other bars, I looked for a shield door or something, but no dice.

And it is my first time mapping in almost a year so this is sorta my warm up map.

And yes I put alot of effort into sides. I really enjoy making sides, Maybe I should do more modding then mapping...

Ya, the sides you make generally are quite good... If you want, I could make a jail cell. I'd use the actual prefab for the correct fit.

Looking at your screenshots, I see absolutely NO height variation. Since it is an astreoid, I'd expect it to be very jagged and bumpy. Also, it looks like Jango's pistol has no texture.

On another note, I hope you don't mind me posting a game mode idea for your map. :P

Since it is a Prison/Jail based map, I think it'd be cool to have a new Prison Break game mode. An idea I had was to have Team 1's spawnpoints all in the jail cells. Their objective would then be to escape the cell and reach an Escape Area (which could be the Republic Assault ship in your map), at which point the player scores 'X' amount of points for his/her team. There would be a point goal, such as 100, with 10 points awarded per score. If the score goal is reached, Team 1 wins. After scoring, there would be a one-way teleporter to send the player back into the jail cell to escape and score again. Oh, and you'd have to do something so that players cannot score repeatedly without going back to jail, such as having them teleport at the same time they score the points. Team 2's objective would be to kill as many of Team 1 as possible, and if they kill 'X' amount of units or score 'X' amount of points, they win.

You could reskin the bars to look like a shield wall, since the model already supports transparency.

This looks interesting, since you have XSI, if I where you, I would find a way to measure the radius and diameter of the purple shield effect. Then you could make a frame like prop. (monkey bars anyone?) It would make the shield seem more realistic, so it doesn't look like it's projected from nothing.

Or is the purple field a object? If so, even easier, you could import it with the Msh Importer, and have the exact size right in XSI.

@Caleb - It is a shield, but I have somewhat measured it. I put the "wire" setting on in ZE, and it is 6 and 1/2 squares from the generator to the shield. That is horizontal and vertical, I'm not sure how many squares it is diagonally. If I could translate 1 ZE square to XSI squares I might be able to do that.

@MandeRek - Is that a bet? :wink:

ZE measures in meters, just like XSI, so it should be an equal amount of cubes.

Looks really nice, though I would add more cover, which I'm sure you're going to do anyway! :thumbs:
