The strangest problem ever

Post by Redline »

I'm sitting at this problem since a long time but I've still no solution for it and I'm clueless.
My map is starting one time but not a second time when I try to reload the map or to go out of the map and try to load the map again. To load the map again you need to start the game again. O.o? I dunno what is broken. But this game tries to kidding me. Does anyone of you had a problem like this before?
PS: I don't wanna give up this map.
And before I do forget. After the second time the game will just freeze...

Had similar problems like this before.
It happens when your map is really close to the object limit in ZE.
Not really much you can do about except for making sure that you load this map as the first one in the row or to reduce your total object count.

I have the same problem with one of my maps. I don't think it's caused by too many objects placed in ZE (my map only has 5), but by the lot of resources needed for the map. For example, I set the unit count pretty high, wich crashes the map sometimes even at the first try. In addition, I added lots of Skydomes andalso rain.
If you push BF2 to it's limits, too, lower the unit count/number of skydomes and try again.
If not, my thesis is wrong.

through my years of playing i have noticed this too, bob's theory is correct. levels that take a lot of resource will crash, especally on older/weaker computers. If you've gotten some dann boeing maps it happens to them too sometimes. it tends to crash the first time you load it and then once you restart the game it works (maybe it had to get ready or something).

not really much that can fix it other than making the map have less stuff, but what fun is that?

If anyone has a pretty high-end computer here could you tell me if your computer has this type of crash problem, i am wondering if it has anything to do with the computer too.

No, Luna does the opposite; it only loads once, and crashes if attempted more than once, and either way, the map isn't filled with very much stuff; and I have a modern, powerful computer anyway.

I was responding to what Lephenix said. Either way, the map has a microscopic variety of objects, and not very many objects to begin with. Not only that, but this isn't even the point I was making; the specs of one's computer are not the cause for the crashes.

And I didn't have a chance to read through the entire thread because I (with my brass choir - we played A Centennial Fanfare by Zdechlik and Irish Tune on a County Derry by Grainger) had to go off and win all 1's at State Solo/Ensemble.

Lephenix just said that your map crashes in the way described above, as well. And either way, the point you made was that it doesn't crash on your high end, modern computer. How does that prove that specs don't matter?

1) FTFY
2) Congratz to you! I'm done with band cuz my college doesn't really have one (well, there are concert bands, but I much prefer marching, and we lost our football team, and subsequently our marching band, in the 80s), but my high school band got nothing but I's in marching competitions and district/state performances in the 6A division (the largest and generally more competetive bands in the state). And I, myself, got I's all three years for percussion solo performance at the district and state levels. So I know it's an exciting feeling!

Well, not that specs don't matter, but more that better hardware doesn't help.

wouldn't hardware be part of the specs...

anyway from what i've pieced together, you are saying that even with your higher end computer you are still crashing on resource intensive maps (unless you consider your map to not be resource intensive).

I just don't like saying "better specs". And yes, and no, Luna is not at all resource intensive, other than the one 2048x2048 ground texture.

so, so far the original question about resource intensive maps crashing on higher end computers hasen't been answered.

I don't think it has to do with them being resource-intensive; some maps seem to just do it for no reason at all, like Alderaan in the Conversion Pack. Besides, Luna started having its problem before the hi-res terrain was put in.

do you have a lot of units on the map at a time? or lots of vehicles, effects, extras, etc?

A high-ish amount of A.I. units, yes, but it crashes even with them all removed.
