I've been playing with the Battlezone 2 editor. Pretty easy to work. The only thing I found to be a pain is you stay over one area at a time. You can't zoom out an look at the big picture. Just takes getting use to.

Fred, that moves the fog out. I'm talking about looking down at an area and being able to raise above and see a wider area.

I'll try it tonight. I'm looking to increase the camera height along the Z axis.
EDIT: Doh! plus and minus keys. Got it.
Thx

Someone asked me if we will be able to modify the stock maps? The tool list only mentioned compile.tools but no decompile one so i guess we won´t be able to edit the current maps or?

Just to clarify the sound issue. Which are you saying
1. The levels we create will be completely silent except for sounds we supply.
2. We can use the sounds from any 1 level that shipped with the game + our own sounds.
3. We can use sounds from multiple levels + our own sounds.

Regarding video:
I have Bink Video conversion tool (free at Bink web site). I convereted little avi to bik file but the movie will not show.
Then I tried to open tat3.mvs with Bink Player, no luck (not a bik file).
So Fred, will we be able to convert movies with this conversion tool or you guys use some special Bink format? I saw your tat3.mvs has ucfb header while bik files have BIK header. There is also Smack file format.
Any comments....

It should not matter where it came from once it is converted to bik. my question is can you give us spects of bik (or wmv) file: resolution, frames per second, audio (probably without audio), keyframes if important, all video related important details.

Will a Spectator mode (for SP or MP, doesnt really matter) be included with the tools? and if not, could one be included, besides the reasons im after, I thought mappers might want to have their own flythroughs of the maps they make on the main menu, if its possible.

true, but it also means not much action in movies people besides me will hope to make, I mean cmon, half these maps like Geonosis have so much action happening it would make a KILLER movie, surely theres some way to get footage like from what ive seen in your guys trailers, almsot every PC game these days has a spec mode.
Anyway, thx alot for putting a cam mode in, though I think a mode with just the cam is needed for us movie makers alike.

Well eddie, waiting for the day your Death star map looks similar to the movie in your background, hehe
Psychofred,
what so special about the screen loading planet zoom clip that even Jabbas Palace didn´t comes with it? Will we be able to use the loading sequence for our mods?
And will it be possible to create campaigns ?

rends, yeah, that will be the day!
anyhow some info about movies:
The problem with the movies is that they are HUGE. Tat3 movie is 17 MB which is almost like a level itself so it is a size issue. If you still wana your movies there is a solution that just might work.
Tat3 movie has the following specs: 720x480 size, 29.97 fps, it is interlaced, 24 sec long = 17 MB.
Now, I made a DS clip movie with the following specs: 320x240 size, 29,97 fps, 200000 bps, 4 sec long = 1 MB and it works. So lower your resolution (720x480, 640x480, 320x240 I've tested), bitrate and duration and you can make OK background movie with OK size.

Ok, no planet zoom then . And we can talk about the campaigns function later again once we have lot of maps
Hm,
eddie you show us that maps works without the background movies. Maybe we should exclude movies from the maps and make them separat downloads for the guys who want them too? So everyone with or without the movie will be able to play the map off/online but it´s player choice for smaller or bigger d/ls.
Oh man i can´t wait for the tools...

Hmm, this will make some modders unhappy. I think it is possible to extract them using Lucky's extract tool?!?

Fred,
Do you know if they plan to release those vehicles in an expansion pack later on?
