I have tried adding Directional lights to a map, and they don't seem to do anything ingame( they do what I want in ZE) at all unless I put them in the Global light setting box. Is this normal? Or do I have to edit something else to get them to work?

Please post your modID.lgt file, but before you do that double check that you have entered the name of your directional light in the box for it, located on the right hand side of ZE in Lighting mode.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. So directional lights do not work unless they are put into the Global light settings box?

That's incorrect. Depending on your light settings (and the things you want it to light up), you may not notice a difference. If you could post a picture of your map in ZE (with the lighting tab opened and the light in question selected) and then a comparison ingame picture, it would help to illuminate the problem.

Nice pun.
ZE pic
The red directional light is the on that does not to appear ingame. It's name is "Light 6", I think. "Sun1" and "Sun2" show up just fine, though.
I will try to post an ingame pic in a few minutes.
I have to eat dinner.

I have a feeling this is your problem:
BF2_lighting doc wrote:Each object can only be affected by at most 1 ambient light, 2 directional lights, 4 omni lights (3 on PS2) and 1 spot light. If more lights affect an object then a heuristic is used to choose the “best” lights to use.

That might be it. I'll try reading over that section some more.

Try going in front of where the light should be in game with a Imp trooper, look at the armor and or weapon that is where you may notice the light the most. That way you can tell if the light is indeed making in game.
Not all objects receive light well.
If you look at this video, there is a red flashing omni light, you can see it on Boba and one the wall by the rotating orange light but not on the walls by where Boba is. (The red stripes are flashing texture they don't count or contribute to the light) So obviously there is something set on the one piece of geometry that is affected by the light while the other one seems to be missing it.

I will try it and post a picture. Thanks.
Edit: It appears everything works on the player(you can see the light), but it doesn't work on a wall for me. Maybe a need change something on the model.
