Not possible the way Halo does it, the only way you can do it would involve making ALL the units of your class switch weapons to the weapon you pick up.
What about how in Halo, you can have, say, a rocket in one weapon slot and a shotgun in the other? I don't suppose you could pick them up from killed enemies, but maybe have them as different secondary and primary weapons? Like, one unit has a rocket as a 1st primary and a shotgun as a 2nd primary. The problem with this is that you'd fill up weapon slots really fast, but with SWBFII's multiple unit classes, it might be possible.
Just an idea.
On a different note, this does look really cool. Me and a friend recently had a arguement about which was better - BFII or Halo. I was on BFII's side, and the main basis of my arguement was that whatever is good about Halo could be converted to BFII, if only the modders would get around to trying it. Well, now that some are, that's great!

Personally speaking I'd think this would be better suited as a class-based Halo theme rather than even thinking about being able to pick up weapons. It would bring a whole new dynamic to Halo-inspired gameplay.
Man, wish I had time to jump in on this, it'd be lotsa fun.

Is the flood going to be in there? As a local side?

I doubt it, because you would just have to make another few models for the different flood, so that you can make a skin that fits all of the deformations it has, like the one with the "spagetti arm" like thing.

I doubt it. Infection is impossible in SWBF. I MAY have a infection form, but it could only melee attack like in halo: Combat Evolved.(The marines were only latched on to until they died, they didn't get infected)

i thought the idea was the huge, thick ones were infected elites, and the smaller, more human shaped ones were, well, human. Marines could be infected, as in the case of private jenkins.
Either way, you would probably need new models, and it would just slow this project down even more.

Wouldn't a reskinned wampa work?

No, it wouldn't because the geometry is still off. You can't do a skin that has random peices of flesh sticking out, or any other deformations because the skin sticks to the geometry of the model, and the wampa has none of the right kind. You COULD however use addon meshes, I beleive but it'd slow down the project by a lot.

Adding, Weapon Pickups is too complicated and would require what amounts to an ugly lua hack job. It was discussed quite some time ago, and I remember Zerted explaining how it could work.
New Flood Infected models would take more time. Easiest way would be to take the models that are going to be used for Marines and Elites, modify those and change the texture. That would take a few days tops.
I'd say go with whats available now, and use that to its fullest extent.
Also, I still UV and texture the Ghost, blame Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3, I have no willpower against those games.

Updates will be coming in soon, I decided to wait to do anything until I got the laptop I'm using now. Also, a urban map I'm making now will feature Halo mode.

I agree with Teancum, but if you want to have pick up-able (is that a word) weapons, maybe you could do as a very strange vehicle. IDK if this is possible, and if you do decide to do it, it should only be for uber pwnzerful (sorry, this topic has me using halo slang) weapons like the missile pod and flamethrower.
Anyway, this is unbelievably awesome.
and halo beats SWBF2, sorry
Oh. I don't know if this is a actually a usable model, (I'm new and slightly confused), but if they are, you should contact this guy. I found these under misc/models/my models

Here's some pics of CG Models I made using different programs like SketchUp:

I'd say there's a 99.9999% chance those grunts were ripped from a game. There's a LOT of stolen stuff people post as theirs in SketchUp.

Silas and I are currently working on a Halo weapon pack. I have the battle rifle 100% done, and my SMG just needs to be re-uved. My plasma rifle and assault rifle need to be textured and the sniper rifle still needs some modeling work. On Silas' side, I believe he has the shotgun done and was working on a rocket launcher last I knew. If you want the things I have done, PM me and I'll send them to you. P.S. I also have a health pack/ kit thing

if you'd like I could make a danger canyon map. I'd need new models though. (tunnel warthog strike ftw!)

Reskins of the default models would look pretty hideous I can imagine. New models shouldn't be too hard to model and rig. I can do modeling and texturing if you need anything.

in addition to the guns, i also have a Scorpian tank made if you want. It still needs textured and the model tweaked, but it's mostly done. Just adding the small details to it

I'm gonna make a suggestion -- I'd go with some original vehicles. Yeah, I know it's supposed to be Halo and all, but some original Halo vehicles would be smart.
Why? Because Microsoft will soon own 100% of the Halo franchise, as Bungie only has one game left with them and they split off. Bungie is very cool about Halo mods. Microsoft has a checkered past on allowing them. And I have to be fair since I shut down the LotR mod topic (though that directly competed with LotR: Conquest, this wouldn't really compete with Halo).
I'm not saying I'm gonna make you do all new content, but don't be afraid to branch out and make it your own so that we attract the good kind of attention.

Sounds like a job for an artist.... Such as myself...
I'd be interested!
