Bumpmap isn't working
Hey,
so I'm trying to put a bump map on a model. I went to Mshtool and applied the proper command to it (I typed in the .msh name, typed bumpmap and then typed the name of the texture I wanted to bump), and it compiled a new msh (or m5h, as I renamed it bash to .msh). I then made a bump texture for it, and then made a .tga.option for that bump texture, with the parameters the same of that of a Mos Eisley bumpmap .option file. Munged the game, nothing. Manual clean, munged again, still nothing.
I also have shadows on here. Am I missing something?

To make sure, your bump texture has the same filename as your original texture but with "_bump" added on to the end?

Re: Bumpmap isn't working
if you have "-format bump_alpha" in the msh.option, it lets battlefront look for the bumpinformation in the bumpmaps alphachannel. change the format to simply "bump" and it should work. atleast if thats the reason for the bumpmaps nonappearance ingame

Also, I don't think bumpmaps are visible unless lighting is set to highest quality. Additionally, the world must have lights in in which are shining on the texture for it's bumpyness to be visible. so, put a light directly on it, turn up all of your graphics settings, and see what you get. Another really good way to see if its working is to substitute a plain white image for the main texture...then it will be obvious if there is any bump mapping occuring.

its not necessary to have another light beside the global one for the bumpmap to show up. you should always be able to see the bumpmap if the lightangle isnt horrible and the bumpscale is high enough. the default is alright as long as you have a range from black to white.

Re: Bumpmap isn't working
Sorry about the delay guys. Anyway, heres my .option file:
I havent noticed any real difference. Should I just fool with the bumpscale any? Does the bump texture matter at all? I changed it to gray and contrasted it a bit. Or does the meshtool bump and the .option bump contradict each other? I thought you were supposed to do it with meshtool as well as give it a .option. But still, Idk.
Oh, wow, I just cleaned and remunged again, and it worked. Don't know what I did in my few days of absence but it worked. But it only shows up on the highest lighting setting. How do I make it work for all of them?
Code: Select all
-bumpmap -format bump -bumpscale 3.0Oh, wow, I just cleaned and remunged again, and it worked. Don't know what I did in my few days of absence but it worked. But it only shows up on the highest lighting setting. How do I make it work for all of them?

That's strange...then why do stock bump maps work on medium lighting quality as well?

Re: Bumpmap isn't working
Hmm...okay, I think I get it. I must have mistaken the effect on the crashed Mos Eisley ship at the Medium setting as a bump map. I think it's more of an env map or something. Is that what it is?
