Meesa no havee.
I'm gonna get one on my b-day though. For some reason, Dad won't let me get one until I'm 15.

I've had one for a few years now, but I don't feel right in giving it out. Parental reasons.

Well I guess that's your choiceNova Hawk wrote:I've had one for a few years now, but I don't feel right in giving it out. Parental reasons.
I personally have NO problem with giving out mine because I know that, if anyone was to harm me, I would not worry as I know that I am in a secure home with people who will protect me (not that I can't protect myself well enough mind).
I am sure that most people here are smart enough to know when someone is stalking someone.
But, anyway you can add me if you want and not post your username, that's why I put mine up for this very reason.

I think you're dad just wants you to be safe. Facebook is infamous for its predators. I don't have a Facebook, since I (personally) find it a bit pointless. I mean, you're advertising yourself across the world wide web. Where's the point in that?GangsterJawa wrote:Meesa no havee.I'm gonna get one on my b-day though. Well, I don't tend to think I would know any predators and anyone who requests for a friend that looks the least bit sketchy would not be considered for a moment. I think it's cool because it helps keep in touch with friends and stuff.Ping wrote:I think you're dad just wants you to be safe. Facebook is infamous for its predators. Re: What's Your FaceBook
The main point of Facebook (for me) is to keep in touch with friends who you don't necessarily see all the time. For example, I made some very close friends last summer, the closest friends I've ever had actually. I haven't seen any of them in nine months, but I talk to them everyday, and we're able to keep up with various stuff that's going on in our lives, share videos and pictures of what's happening where we live, etc.
It's also allowed me to connect with people I'll be going to college with next year. With a group for our college class, we're able to get a feel for each other - our likes and dislikes, room mate preferences, hobbies, all sorts of stuff.
So really, it's not meant to be about simply broadcasting yourself all over the web for the whole world to see, it's purpose is more for connecting with people.

yeah i agree with that. i pretty much use it as another form of effective communication between friends.Eggman wrote:The main point of Facebook (for me) is to keep in touch with friends who you don't necessarily see all the time. QFT. But I also have some cousins who live out of state & country and it's a great way to keep in touch with them since I only see them once every one or two years.Eggman wrote:The main point of Facebook (for me) is to keep in touch with friends who you don't necessarily see all the time. Amen to that, there's a really crappy, make-your-page-as-ugly-as-possible site for that. What's that site called again? Oh yeah, I remember. MYSPACE.Eggman wrote:So really, it's not meant to be about simply broadcasting yourself all over the web for the whole world to see, it's purpose is more for connecting with people.
Amen to that too, I'ma be blunt and say it's very much not smart to give your Facebook out to someone who you don't know in person. There's waaaay to much identifiable information on there. It's got your full name, which is as simple as a search on a few sites to get ahold of your info, and a lot of people post their phone numbers and addresses anyways.Nova Hawk wrote:I've had one for a few years now, but I don't feel right in giving it out.
To say you're well protected is really ignorant. You may live in Fort Knox and your parents could be secret agents, but the moment you set foot on the bus your bus driver could be a stalker, or someone grabs you between the bus and getting into school. No. You're much safer not giving anyone a chance to do that crap. That's like saying "Hey, my car is bulletproof. So go ahead, OPEN FIRE" Eventually you gotta get out of that car, or eventually they'll find a big enough gun to get you.
No, you protect yourself by being smart. Security systems, self defense, all that jazz is secondary.
No offense, but this isn't a smart idea. To protect the privacy of the users (even the ones who don't know better) The private data in this thread is getting wiped. If ya'll want to share Facebook info in private, fine, but any stalker/idiot/spambot/weirdo can get your info if you add it here, and you may get bombarded with creepy friend requests.
Nobody's in trouble, but I gotsta stand up and protect the user's rights.
