I'd do it but a) I want to compete and b) I'm new, so I wouldn't be a very good judge.
Howzabout it guys?

You would have to get a set time limit for the map making, and if you wanted a fair contest you would have to have a rule so they could only use stock props and buildings. Also since its a mapping contest the sides would have to stay stock standard.
One other thing, would it be limited to land only?
Everything else but those few things should sort themselves out.

the first question is: how many people are interested in joining?
maybe there will be another one on swbffiles....

A few SWBFFiles staff proposed one a while back, wasn't taken up. Don't think there's a completely fair (ie anonymous) way to do it on GT without having some sort of middleman to post things anonymously.
That said if enough people are interested and the admins allow it I'd be happy to fill the aforementioned role. I'd be interested in having another contest provided enough people wanted to enter.

Sounds good Sky, but lets not let this turn into a failure like the modelling contest did, eh?

I always enjoyed the SWBFFiles contests, so I'd definitely be interested in participating. The only way I could so, however, would be if the contest took place around the first few weeks of December, since I'm so busy with school. I think if we adopted the SWBFFiles winter/summer contests the interest would be much greater since more people would have more time to put together their entries. We could use pretty much the same rules as the SWBFFiles contests as well; they were fair and easy to understand, yet still allowed a lot of creative freedom.

well the organisation and infrastructure of the modeling contest was rather not optimal i would say and swbffiles is a bigger platform plus mapping is more popular than modeling

I'd like to particapate. It would be a great way to kick off my mapping career! I think that the contest would have to have some sort of theme though, like space maps, or only maps set on a specific planet.

I'll participate. And add a poll.
And my vote's in for a Kashyyyk based map.
As for the anonymous thing, is that really a problem? IDK, do you think people would be biased?

I'm in for it. Kashyyk, eh? Well... It's kind of simple. Just... lots of wookiees. I'll go with a TFU based Kashyyk, centering around the one we see in the prologue on the Wii, PS2, and PSP versions.

I'm not making the decision. That's just what I felt like doing.
And I would say for stock props and stuff, stock and anything available on GT.

Rules?
Italicized stuff is Edits
General 1. All maps must follow all GT Rules and Regulations (duh).
2. All maps must be on the planet Kashyyyk (or wherever).
3. No space maps. 4. A minimap is required.
5. Custom loadscreen is suggested.
Mapping
1. Indoor or outdoor is acceptable.
2. Stock assets only. May be reskinned to your liking. May also be converted from props to buildings and back again. ODF editing is not allowed. (How do you guys like that?)
3. There need to be trees or whatever. In other words, it needs to look like Kashyyk (or wherever).
4. Textures and skydomes may be edited.
5. Try not to flood the map so it crashes computers.
Sides
1. All sides may included any combination of the following classes:
Rifleman, Rocketeer, Engineer, Sniper, Officer, Special, Pilot, Marine.
2. Reskinning is allowed.
3. Hexediting is not. No adding kamas, capes, etc...
4. Any aesthetic changes can be made, like laser effects, sounds.
5. No custom weapons, nor can the weapons be switched around.
6. Unlock levels may be changed, only ODF editing allowed.
Heroes
I'm thinking we allow one custom hero, to let people show off? It wouldn't be worth extra, you just can if you want to.
1. Reskinning, relocalizing is allowed.
2. No ODF changes.
3. No weapon swaps.
Vehicles
1. Reskins and relocalizes are allowed.
2. The only ODF changes allowed is speed and hover height.
3. Any number of vehicles are allowed.
4. Any stock vehicle is allowed.
Modes
1. Conquest is required.
2. CTF and 1Flag and Assault are optional. Included them if possible.
3. Custom modes?
Eras
1. CW and GCW are required (durr).
2. KotOR support is encouraged (if you can).
3. Any other Era support is optional.
4. No custom era may be made for this map.
The DL
1. A top-notch ReadMe should be included.
2. The map needs to be packed properly.
3. A autoinstaller would be cool.
Multiplayer
1. MP support is not required
Betas
1. You are allowed to post betas for anyone to review.
2. You and only you are allowed to work on this map.
Submission
How are we going to do this?
Note: Skins can be downloaded from SWBFFF, with permission of course.

2. Stock assets only. May be reskinned to your liking. May also be converted from props to buildings and back again. ODF editing is not allowed. (How do you guys like that?) I don't, for example, to use two of the same object, but with different textures, you need to hex edit and odf edit.
3. There need to be trees or whatever. In other words, it needs to look like Kashyyk (or wherever).
4. Textures and skydomes may be edited.
5. Try not to flood the map so it crashes computers. Assuming that means shallow, simple water if any, and low numbers of resource intensive fx.

These involve a bit of ODF
5. No custom weapons, nor can the weapons be switched around.
6. Unlock levels may be changed, only ODF editing allowed. I liked the SWBFFiles rule that only the stock lvl's could be loaded for sides, since it was a mapping contest, not a side mod contest. Heroes/\
I'm thinking we allow one custom hero, to let people show off? It wouldn't be worth extra, you just can if you want to.
1. Reskinning, relocalizing is allowed.
2. No ODF changes. Then what is the point? All you could do is take like a stock obiwan and give a green cloak or something, there would be absolutely no new gameplay.
3. No weapon swaps. /\
Vehicles/\
3. Custom modes?Again, I liked the SWBFFiles rules, I believe they were conquest only.
Eras
1. CW and GCW are required (durr).
2. KotOR support is encouraged (if you can). Using convopak? or from scratch? see other comments regarding sides and SWBFFiles
3. Any other Era support is optional.
4. No custom era may be made for this map. I think this contradicts 2 and 3.
The DL
1. A top-notch ReadMe should be included.
2. The map needs to be packed properly.
3. A autoinstaller would be cool. but totally unnecessary
Multiplayer
1. MP support is not required
Betas
1. You are allowed to post betas for anyone to review.
2. You and only you are allowed to work on this map.

Here are SWBFFiles rules from the December 2009 Contest. Of course, a new contest should have something other than Canyon/ravine and Due by December 31 2009...
I thought these rules were a fair and simple box to map in,
Hidden/Spoiler:
if only I would have started Dec. 15 instead of Dec. 29 .

I guess those would work....
I just like writing rules.
Doesn't matter which, but we should figure that out.
Due Thanksgiving or Christmas? Or New Years Eve?

And I don't know what date thanksgiving is cause I don't celebrate it so I'd say Christmas : )
