are you using GIMP? if so, click the colors tab, and hue saturation. just lower the overall saturation to get a "blank" effect (or the red, both work)

edit: actually, rex's visor could use a little work, (the blue line is sort-of crooked) but seriously, thats really good. is that just the imp snowtrooper?
