I've created a monster!

Post by Dakota »

This is a topic for all those modders out there. Post a moment or story of something that you created that was a monster, I'll post my story for example.

When I first brought the ninjas into existence it was not in the mod Red vs Blue, it was instead on a test map I had created. I had no idea what I was in for when I edited those odfs, made a custom combo, reskinned the clone trooper, or even when I had put them in the lua giving 25 to one team...
...
...
...the nightmares
Hidden/Spoiler:
and so I decided to spread the horror to all the people of the internet by putting ninjas in my mods, and we all lived happily ever after, the end

Well looks like I'm not getting any sleep tonight. However I did create my own "monster" once. When I initially added the Jedi ghost skins to my graveyard map, the skins reflected the light from the clone trooper's lasers. they were so bright i will never forget literally having to look away from my computer screen, lucky I didn't have a seizure or anything :funny2:

SO MANY GAMORREANS! IT HURTS! (Wish I had a screenshot)

R.I.P. Gamorrean Attack. You had one too many.
Hidden/Spoiler:
I worked for a loooong time on Gamorrean Attack, trying to max out the number of gamorreans I could have on the field at once. However, there were many, many crashes, and some of them seemed unsolveable. A few were, but the actual errors are unknown to me. Maybe I'll try to revive it again...

EDIT: JK, it wasn't a crash this time. I forgot that everything inside the "Worlds" folder had suddenly disappeared.

The story: Some years ago I made a test map to try out the concept of scaling props, buildings, terrain etc. down to make units look bigger (scaling people and vehicles up over a certain degree screws up the model). I also played around with infinite health, shields and the

Code: Select all

HitLocation           = "p_crithit 4.0"
line, the result was that the spiderwalker was easy to kill if you got the weakspot, but else it was indestructable. No matter how much firepower was used.

My "monster" that I´ve created was a reskin of a jedi from Coruscant.
It was used for my Zombie test/first map, with wampa combo and 8000 or more health :faint: !
It was supposed to be a zombie boss but no one was able to kick his Diet Dr. Pepper :runaway:

The original modification of my droideka just had 2 little changes. The blasters did double damage and appeared to be double barreled (still do, *might* reduce fire rate or something, haven't decided) and changed the shield regen from -100 to +50.

Because the shield is a sphere some distance from the droideka's body, a shot that depleted the shield didn't even touch the droideka, and because it regenerates, it would never deactivate.

It was 100% invulnerable to all weapons other than explosives, lightsabers, or beam weapons once it got the shield up, although blasters could weaken the shield to make it easier for a single grenade to get the kill.

EDIT: It was actually in interesting challenge to take down an AI using this 'deka, but playing one was too easy because the only way you died was by grenade barrage. Maybe if i make a campaign i can buff the shield in that...

I once made a droideka that had infinite shield, using the 1e+37 thing, and its blasters shot blasts that were GIGANTIC. If one hit near you, you would instantly die, and the shake was on maximum for 10 seconds and the push would push you all the way across a normal-sized map. :faint:

Ultra Droideka. Large reserves of health and infinitely regenerating shield (+1), rocket launcher and blaster cannons. This thing was a challenge for any unit to take down. Oh did I mention it explodes with the force of a grenade?

Whoah, that's a really cool idea - having unit explosions deal damage. I might have to look into this...

My contribution: Orbital Strike pistol.

Don't have pics but I created a rocket rifle, blaster rifle that fired rocket launcher ords. Took it on a space map and won 180 to 4. :funny2: Just went into the enemy hanger and blew up all their empty ships.

Oh yeah thats the other thing I meant to post but forgot. When I first figured out how to make custom sides (About a year ago) the first thing I did was make a clone that had infinite jet pack, infinite health, and a gun that shot EMPs at about 100 a second. I called it "the heat ray" because it looked just like that, a single beam of 10000000000 degree energy

I was one time messing around with the Seismic charges to see what would look best for an instant kill for a good radius when it went off.

Unfortunately, I was inexperienced in this sort of thing, and it didn't come to my attention that there was no actual push from the explosion, it just cut you in half.

The result? EVERYONE on the map ended up flying around 70 feet in the air once that little mother hubbard went off. It got annoying...fast.

That reminds me of when I first added "Nuke Grenades" to a map, things get real bad, real fast when you see a guy carrying those.
