Award Visual Effects [Solved]

Post by Fierfek »

Is there any way to turn off the visual effects from Guardian and War Hero? I have legendary on both of them, and get really sick of the stupid red and blue glows.

Note: I have the 1.3 patch installed, but most maps still have the visual effects.

There might be an easier way, but I think you might need to make a custom ingame.lvl, replacing the award effects with dummy ones...

I always find it interesting that folks hate the visual effects so much. It's been a long time since I've had a profile with awards, but didn't they have sound, too? I'd find that much more irritating.

Sounds are worse, but the effects are almost as bad.

You probably have it installed wrong, then. If you choose the option to disable those effects, then they should be disabled on all maps. Also, installing the unofficial 1.2 patch right after installing the unofficial 1.3 patch revision 129 will cause the effects to revert back to the original. In any case, just install the unoffical 1.3 patch again.

There's also a Fake Console command to disable award effects, though I'm not sure if it disables the sound, since it's been so long since I've played with sound.

The sounds are part of the effects, so they will both go away. :)

Yeah, the sound was annoying too, but that didn't matter as much for me, given the visual effects were actually causing the game to lag on my computer.

Anyways, I reinstalled the 1.3 patch, and that fixed it. I guess it didn't install correctly the first time. Problem solved, thanks guys.
