I was wondering how right or wrong this is: taking the PS2 and Xbox versions of SWBF2, playing them on a pc using an emulator, while using DXRipper to extract pS2 and xbox versions of models from frames it captures.
I'm wondering this from when i was playing SWBF2 on my friend's ps2 and noticed that the pistol model for the imperials was much different then the model for the pc version (the ps2 version looked accurate. the pc version, well, i think looks like a large pen with a pistol grip and a small scope.
I would be conducting this on my friend's computer with him since he owns the ps2 version of Bf2, and a better computer
(the process might be something like: play on emulator, capture models, transfer to my laptop, import to blender, export as vrml, import vrml to mshviewer, save as a msh file)
I need your guys'opinion. would it be ok to use the model in a mod and/or release them, or not? (i mean, its the same game as what we all play, but different consoles)
Is this ok to do or not (involves SWBF1+2 for ps2 and xbox)

i reckon that its not allowed to extract models from games through a ripper because developers dont want anybody to reverse-engineer content. you should look into the eulas of the xbox/ps2 version, im sure they can answer your question.

I'd say it's cool, especially since the community uses content back and forth between both SWBF games and Clone Wars as well. But let me stop you. There are no PS2 or Xbox emulators that can do 3D capture due to the way it processes the data. The only emu I know of that can is Dolphin, which is a Gamecube/Wii emulator.

good to know! do the consoles really have other models that arent in the modtoolassets?
as far as i understood he want to use dxripper which gets the models directly from the memory though directx.

Yeah, no 3D rippers work on PS2/Xbox emulators. The 3D is processed in the emulator then output to the screen as 2D, so doing a 3D capture will give you a flat image. Only Dolphin actually uses DirectX to post-process the 3D, that's why it works (on some games).

So, how would i possibly be able to do this then, or is it impossible? I mean, acemastermind somehow extracted the clonewars models and textures, so i 'm just wondering

We were lucky. The Clone Wars Xbox MSH format was the same as SWBF1/2 PC. Having dug into this a lot myself, I can tell you that SWBF PS2/Xbox MSH files are much different than PC, and won't work.
